@raraavis7782

@@bonniecreevy2642 Well, they don't have a brain. They're way down the ladder in terms of complexity. They do have a very rudimentary nervous system, though. They react to stimuli. So it's a hard to answer question. If you poke something and it 'flinches' back reflexively, is that pain? Even when there's no brain to actually interpret what's going on and make decisions or have feelings?

My bio professor explained pearls as like having a constant irritant to your body inside of you that your body reacts to protect itself by encapsulating the entire problem.

This involves fibroblasts creating a vascular and collagenous fibrous capsule that confines the implant and prevents it from interacting with the surrounding tissue." Ephesians‬ ‭6:10‭-‬18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.

The best cultured pearls have the nucleus made of mother of pearl from an oyster shell. For some pearls, the oysters are left to grow for years in the hope of 8-12mm or larger. Seed pearls are rarely harvested anymore as the market is very limited. Large blemish free pearls fetch a good price.

Pearls aren't always a parasite they simply are some kind of irritating agent. The next thing is that if the oyster lives long enough it can expell Pearls though getting one of those is fairly rare.
@MENTALTAKEDOWN
@MENTALTAKEDOWN 10 ай бұрын
Yup. It’s a very similar process as in our human bodies. If you get an implant, your body will surround it with cartilage/scar-like tissue to protect the rest of your body from the irritation/foreign body. Clams and oysters do the same thing which results in pearls. Could be sand, could be a parasite, could be a tiny pebble or bone of a fish, etc etc

Years ago, my mom found a tiny purple pearl in a wild clam she foraged. It's pretty low-grade, being so tiny and not very shiny, but the color is straight *violet*. It's A few times she asked a jeweler to look at it since it seemed so unusual, knowing full well it probably wasn't much if anything, but none would even look at it, saying she was lying or it was fake or not actually a pearl, since pearls are white and clams can't make pearls. Clams can make pearls. I spent a couple summers diving for clams in Wisconsin. The clams were steamed and cleaned to get rid of the guts, and then shipped to Japan. They saw them up into seed pearls (what they put in the oyster to make a pearl). I found pearls in clams. Most were small, a few were large, very few were round. They come in different colors. Fresh water pearls are a thing.

Probably was still a cultured pearl and that oyster just somehow ended up being harvested/ sold for consumption instead. Natural pearls are exceedingly rare, especially that big. Is there a limit to how big the nucleus can be? What I mean is, do bigger pearls have a bigger implanted nucleus or is there a standard limiting nucleus size.
@katamine11
@katamine11 11 ай бұрын
Pretty sure the nucleus is roughly always the same size and bigger pearls are just from the oyster having it in them longer. They typically just use grains of sand, which don’t vary in size much. Especially in areas where the sand is very fine, powdery sand like in most tropical regions, which is where most oyster farming happens.

I've seen nucleii ranging in size from a small ball bearing to one that's about the size of a marble (huge oysters about 9-10 inches diameter). You'd be surprised how little natural material makes up a pearl. Almost all of it was "implanted."
@MavSavMorgan
@MavSavMorgan 10 ай бұрын
The size of the nucleii will depend on the size of the shell, big pearls are a bit of luck honestly but big pearls tend to come from older shell on their second or third pearl cycle. Some small oysters will surprise you with a big pearl here and there though

They are not killing the oysters. If they had brains they'd probably be annoyed by being poked but they don't and are not harmed by pearl culturing. In fact they're better off at a pearl farm than just in the wild. They're interesting animals despite being so simple. :)

Depending on circumstances they might have a cooldown period but a single oyster may be farmed many times for pearls.
@MavSavMorgan
@MavSavMorgan 10 ай бұрын
If they're healthy after harvesting they'll be put back again with a new bead inside up to two extra times and then after that they are killed and the pearl meat is harvested aswell as the shell for things like pearlescent paint. Pearls are harvested once they've been in the water for 2 years so an oyster that has produced 3 pearls would do it over 6 years and then get killed. At least here in Australia with silver lip oysters

This is what I know......some form of irritant gets under or inside of the oysters shell like a parasite but it don't have to be specifically a parasite. Then slowly over time the oyster secretes a substance called aragonite and conchiolin these apparently make up their shells. This creates what's known as nacre which is basically mother of pearl. This covers the irritant and over time and many many coatings you get a pearl. Cultured pearls are not nearly as expensive as real pearls they are nor as rare for one.
