This episode has one of the most influential lines in cartoon history, "I may lose, but it won't be because I gave up." Very powerful indeed to say the least.

In my case, it is "I won, and I never gave up; but the losers get the glory, so what was the point in bothering, now I feel like an idiot for trying". That is what people are like with me.

I remember when I was a kid this trial was announced, I had very little faith that my boy could pull off beating Cheetara at her own game. And the biggest shock of my young life was watching him pass her and I just cheered like crazy. These really were the best episodes of the show. It’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.

Same here. When the odds are stacked against us sometimes it takes resilience and never giving up to actually turn the tides. I saw this episode when I was about 10-12 years old. Now at age 37, it's great to be reminded again - I may lose, but it won't be because I gave up.

i don't care how cliche older cartoons were, this episode was probably one of my favorites if not my favorite from this show, i think i was 14 or 15 when they showed it on toonami all those years ago and i remember when they showed this. as weird as it sounds i was so proud of lion-o and his drive not to give up, no cheap tricks, just the will to keep going.....something today's cartoons don't teach, just a bunch of silliness and bullshit.

andre banks I didn't realize as a kid how many lessons and morals one can learn from watching Thundercats. Did you know that there is a moral to EVERY SINGLE episode? Some not as obvious as others. You are 100% in that today's cartoons like South Park doesn't teach kids anything, but you learn NOT to GIVE UP in life by watching Thundercats. You can even learn from Mumm-ra! In the episode the Mumm-ra Berbil, Mumm-ra tells the Thundercats that his defeat is NOT a failure but merely a setback. This is how I see life when I fail in an interview, test, etc. I recall Mumm-ra's words...NOT a failure, just a setback!
@magnumopus8124

Macho Mike haha ya you're right about the lessons. i think older cartoons were meant just for that, they knew the shows were meant for kids so they intentionally wanted to teach life lessons, like how they did with gi joe and the lessons they would teach at the end of the show or even more recent captain planet. this just goes to show that as time change, the less entertainment have any sort of morals or reasoning.....it's just there to exist, just look how music changed......just horrible.

Do people ever feel that they wasted their time, even when they always achieve nothing when they stand strong like that? I do, and I still don't give up.... Why the fuck I am stupid enough to keep trying to stay strong, despite it getting me no where and no one gives a fuck about my effort is beyond me; I guess it is just instinct, I wasn't taught to do it either; no one cares as I said. It just feels like the right thing to do.
@sobe762
@sobe762 2 жыл бұрын
@@thevikingwarrior I do too, friend. You aren't stupid; you are wise. Your effort is not subject to another's approval. I believe it is part instinct, part conditioning. Whether the parts are equal, I am uncertain. My definition of the word "integrity" is: doing the right thing even when you think nobody is watching. I believe you possess that value. Who cares if nobody cares? Thank you for replying.
@thevikingwarrior

@@sobe762 Thankyou @Ryan Sobraska - But it is important for people to respect our efforts, not just feel sorry for us when we struggle. I made a lot of effort and I am very tired indeed, and I have been given no respect, and all it has done is fostered hatred in me towards such people. They have either complained that I am not trying hard enough in my life and used threats of punishment and so on; or if I have struggled, they only pitied me and felt sorry for me, and felt that I am a poor helpless individual; both of which are painful and insulting. I want to be a leader and inspire people, and be seen as a source of strength and inspiration and known for being brave; and I have tried fucking everything. I wish someone could me to deal with these people's attitudes, and help me to get what I so badly want, and which I will never stop trying to achieve!!! 💖💗💙💛🧡💙

I watched Thundercats all the time, but I could only watch it when i came on... so at kindergarten, when someone had a Thundercats movie, I was in heaven... Then, at 7 years old, me and my family moved to another house in another town, and that was it, no more thundercats... but this was the last episode I remember watching, and I can still recall it today... Yet be it in animation or real life acting, it is things like this that makes it easier to have hope for better things in the future. And being a big time ThunderCats fan, this is one piece that I do draw great strength and joy from. With that, if this wonderful piece here is not enough to keep one from wanting to give up, let me point you another great video: Rescue Heroes, "Flashback To Danger." and I have just checked, and it is on KZfaq. 1:49 to 1:56 "Don't get your hopes up just yet, there's still 100 metres to go and Cheetara has a 25 metre lead at least" 2:13 - Finally finish race Ignoring the fact that Panthro takes 7 seconds to make his 100 metre / 25 metre lead comment (Cheetara has 75m to go, and an olympic runner could cover most of this easily within the 7 seconds), making it obsolete as soon as it leaves his mouth... Steve-O finishes the final 100m in 24 seconds, which is a rather pathetic 15kph / 9.6mph, and Cheetara manages 75m (or less) in the same time, which is an even more pathetic 11.25kph / 7.2mph. This is slower than a milk float. Bear in mind professional marathon runners (26 miles vs 5 miles in this race) run at well above 10mph on average.

Wouldn't have mattered because she says the distance they ran was too much for her. At normal speed, Lion-O is faster, so he would have gotten way ahead of HER . Her super speed would have closed the gap, but not soon enough to win. Also, it makes for a more dramatic finish in that Lion-O clearly appears to have lost, but he doesn't give up. In the opposite, Lion-O would have been running scared from a rapidly approaching Cheetara and he would have REALLY believed she threw the race.

Studying lot of material on this subject the cheetah does not go into long distance running, because it will develop dangerous temperatures they will run no more than 1,640 ft at 60-70mph, but Lions can run up to 50mph.

To put it simple cheetahra had a limit on her super speed. But the Lion O endured till the end this is why he won

+Rex67Diego9 It's called the 80's most cartoons then didn't have exactly great voice acting.

Mad Mike i don't think the year excuses a bad acting, its like saying movies in the eighties are acted bad and now they don't and you can find that it isn't the case when you see the original terminator compared to genesis

+Rex67Diego9 It wasn't meant to be an excuse, the voice acting IS BAD. But a lot of 80's cartoons have bad voice acting, He-Man, Bravestar, Spiderman (and his amazing friends) even Transformers outside of a couple notable roles. It was just the style at the time to rush production of the cartoon and get it out in order to sell more toys.

Other cartoons sounded fine. And if they wanted, they could have sounded like other cartoons. Thundercats is about a chivalrous alien culture. It;s meant to be both admirable and different. It makes it unique.

I never liked Cheetara's voice. Great character, nice show but her choppy speech never worked for me.
