I started to make my own compost after finding Ross's channel a few years ago and, whilst it isn't perfect, at least I know what is (and ISN'T) in it. I do have to supplement with commercial compost still though, so reviews like this are very useful. Where are some of these manufacturers getting their source matter from that allows dog-poo bags in to the chain?

shocking how compost quality has dramatically tailed off over the last few years, something we used to just take for granted and it's not just peat frees, I'm experimenting with making my own mixes

I wish I would have found your video sooner before I made the mistake of buying 4 bags of SupaGrow compost. I have lost more than a month with the seedlings. I'm afraid to throw it in the garden to mix it with the garden soil. The biggest mistake of my life was this, buying SupaGrow compost. Avoid at any cost

I used this last year and it was terrible. I think it's forestry waste mixed with domestic green waste. The smell was horrible and it grew a lovely crop of unwanted mushrooms. I've never used anything so nasty in my life. Utter shite (quite literally). I think I'll start buying cheap compost or make my own, sift it, add sand and fish blood and bone and see how it goes. Anything is better than stuff sold commercially in the new peat free movement. Don't get me wrong... I'm all for peat free but it should be plastic and cat shit free too!

Thanks Ross. I saw this in Wickes and lucky watched your video and avoided it. 👍 Please can you do a review of the Supagrow Manure to see if that is rubbish too or worth getting as I've seen it at about £4 per 50liter bag which is really cheap but not sure if worth getting or not.

"wet dying dog smell" 😂😂 Looks like an absolute nightmare. Will you be doing growing tests in each of these composts? I've just finally splashed out on Sylvagrow at £9 a bag. Crazy price but people swear by it. I was surprised by how, even in that, there's quite a few bigger woody chunks. Hopefully it will be a great growing medium.

Yes, by next week I'll have 6 bags open. 6 vids and will start sowing in them all. Then ill pop out and get 6 more. 👍

Make me think I'd rather not bother adding shop bought compost to my soil if I haven't made enough. The plants would be better off without it.

If I had the space, I'd have my own compost bins, and recycle domestic waste (spud peels etc) rather than buy other people's rubbish! But I don't have the room for a line of decent-sized bins, where I can let it rot down, and turn it occasionally.

I buried it deep in a raised bed with about a foot of better compost on top of it. 😆
