I think for world cup qualifying they should remain separate, but for tournaments like the Copa America it seems like a very good idea. It gives the South American teams more competition and money and allows for the North American teams to grow and gain experience playing against world class teams.

@@duckway4733naw if they want to play against better teams then they should keep that same energy for when the World Cup qualifiers come and play South American countries as well, otherwise Mexico always passing to the World Cup. It elevates their fan base thinking they are good enough for a World Cup since they always qualify. This would in turn make sure that the Mexican national team actually take risks and start to actually try, instead of playing it safe and bringing on their old players. That way less corruption in the Mexican federation and more opportunities for lower income people who want a chance to play for their country who actually try their very damned hardest because for them it’s Make or Break mentality.

@@dsavage6618 we had like 4 Copa Americas in 5 years, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020 (played in 2021 because of Covid), but you get the point, and it's historically been like this, you can tell just by the sheer amount of titles that have been won in the competition.

And? This competition has been ongoing since 1916 (Organized by Argentina to celebrate a century since the nation's independence),and unlike others,didn't have to stop for WW2. Since it was such an old and primitive era for professional football,of course it was much different. At first it was yearly or every two years,then took some long gaps,and since around the 60s-70s (when the eurocup became a thing) it had stabilized to every 3-4 years,mostly. 2016 was an exception since it was once again to conmemorate,this time the first copa america. It's not south america's fault that europe took longer to create their own cup,tho i must admit they've kept the time frame between cups clean and organized better. As for the difficulty of each,well,it depends on lots of factors. I don't think the difference between the level of teams is too big,since Conmebol has Argentina,Brazil and Uruguay,all world champions,plus all the other teams that play with passion and that may have advantage when playing home. Meanwhile,the euro is littered with some really mediocre teams. The biggest negative for the copa america is really the small amount of teams,Conmebol has very little and even adding Concacaf,i don't think we'd reach the amount europe has. But in terms of,for example,classifying for knockout stages,it's not that different in difficulty. While you have to play to qualify for the euros (logical given the amount of european countries),there's also the fact the some best thirds clasify,and that's bs,at least to me. Like,the 2016 champion Portugal got three points from three ties and got into knockouts? Not to mention the rivals faced. Hungary,Poland and Wales. At least France was a real menace in the final.
