Tristan Oliver was born with a giant omphalocele, which means some of his abdominal organs were protruding outside of his abdominal wall into a thin-walled sac. After waiting to allow a thin layer of skin to grow over the omphalocele, Dr. KuoJen Tsao operated on Tristan one year after his birth to correct this rare defect.
Tristan is now a thriving, active, 4-year-old boy who lives life to the fullest. Throughout his journey, his parents, Kate Ferrell and Rick Oliver, depended on Dr. Tsao to provide treatment that would heal and protect Tristan for the rest of his life.
As a pediatric surgeon and co-director of UTHealth Houston Fetal Center, Dr. Tsao is dedicated to leading his patients and their families through life-altering diagnoses toward healthy, happy outcomes.
In the heart of the Texas Medical Center and across the state, UTHealth Houston is boldly committed to solving the greatest health challenges of our time through education, research, innovation, and excellence in patient care.
