You guys are absolute rock stars for having a newborn & a toddler and still taking time out of your day to film all this amazing content. I've always wanted a baby and after a journey with IVF expecting my 1st in April. All your videos have been so informational and comforting. Thank you, Sarah and Kurt. Wishing you both much joy and happiness 💕

20:02 This part is so important! My parents did this completely wrong when they had my younger sister. Not only did they not prepare me for being an older sibling, they thought it was hilarious when I would have tantrums over losing their attention, and they often dismissed my emotions or treated my unhappiness as an inconvenience. Not once did they try to make me understand why the baby needed more from them than I did, nor did they reassure me that I was still loved as much as before. This turned into me resenting my new sister, which resulted in a lot of problematic and sometimes dangerous behavior during my early childhood. Fortunately my sister and I are best friends as adults, but she and I both could have been spared a lot of tumultuous events growing up if our parents had done a better job harmonizing our sibling experience in the first place.

You mention around 19:30 the anxiety, and if we're feeling this way to reach out for help.. but, ideally, who should that be? Our GP? OB? I'd be afraid to call the wrong place, and then have my baby taken away. Just wondering who would be most appropriate, that would look at that kind of call as "normal".

I had heard about the postpartum hormones but I was FLOORED at how bad it was for me. My daughter was in the NICU for 9 days (born at 34+6) which certainly added to it as I couldn't bond with her, but I truly thought I would never be happy again. But it was exactly two weeks, and the clouds lifted and I haven't dealt with postpartum depression (anxiety is another story... but I've always had that.)

Watching those clips of your toddler with her little brother brought back memories of being the older sister! Definitely positive formative memories for me. I'm only expecting my first baby at the moment, but man, if that isn't making me think of #2 already! Not going to rush it of course! I've gotta see if we can manage one, first 😂

The clips of Cecelia interacting with her brother are so precious! You certainly make beautiful babies. When we brought our second baby home, our oldest, who was 4, held his new brother, cuddled him, and then announced that we could take him back to the hospital. So funny! I would also add that , for breastfeeding moms, when you nurse subsequent babies, the uterine cramping each time you nurse can be pretty intense.

Thank you so much for your videos. My daughter is 39w 3D and she is 35 years old. This is their first child. I never breast fed my daughter so I don’t know much about those nuances and your videos are wonderful. Things have changed a lot since I had a baby. I thought a neat video would be to talk to your moms and dads about what they did to try and help you both. I plan on keeping the refrigerator full of home cooked meals and just being there when they need me. I don’t want to be over bearing and give them space as well. Thank you again for sharing your journey!!!

The commentary about feeding all the time is so helpful for new moms!! I knew about cluster feeding, but the 2-3 hour rule was so drilled into me that I didn’t properly assess hunger cues. I have a low supply for a few different reasons, but I think this was a huge one. On a similar note-I’d ask the LC in the hospital to really assess for mouth restrictions (ties, high palate, etc.) before leaving. My babe has a tight frenulum and-even though she latched pretty well from the start-gets so tuckered out eating that she only gets half of her needs in an hour long session. I had no idea why until around week 5 when I went for a one on one consult with an LC.

Can’t tell you how much I needed this video 15 months ago before my 1st was born. This is gold! Wish I hadn’t learnt the hard way. Will be sharing with pregnant friends, as it’s so difficult to gently but realistically frame the realities of bringing home a newborn vs. the sweet nativity of pre-birth and baby ‘planning’. I’ve followed your journey since your first videos, and then through our conception through to birth journey, and I’m just so delighted for you both and your littles 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

In awe of y’all for making videos with a new newborn! Appreciate your talking about mom care too. My unplanned c-section, trying to breastfeed, having a newborn was all slightly traumatic for me. I really wish there was some point in the postpartum care pathway where someone (maybe multiple people! Ob, pedi) ask mom “how are you doing?” I struggled so much after my son was born but didn’t have PPD if you just went by the survey the doctors just left in the room for me fill out without even actually saying anything about if. Spoiler alert: After months of struggling turns out I did have ppd and thank goodness for Zoloft. Anyway, congrats to you both! Wishing you all the best and hopefully some rest!

Had my baby via C section 5 weeks ago, one thing i will tell moms is take the stool softeners and drink lots of water lol, if you had a c section wear a belly band it really helps support your abs, and helps with back pain . Take your pain meds on time , and ask for help . I lived in pajamas for 3 weeks lol , i know new borns are a lot of work and we are always thinking about them… but please also take care of yourself too. Shower time is my favorite part of the night lol im alone for 20m and i feel refreshed and better after .

The night my son was born, after all the check up and releasing us from the labour ward into the maternity ward, he slept for 11 hrs straight which scared me. I kept putting my finger under his nose to see if he was alive. Then I decided to wake him up and everything went downhill from there. He would sleep for abt half hour at a time and then cry a lot if I put him in the bassinet even if he was fed and dry.

I’m 33 weeks pregnant with a baby boy and we have a 3 year old big sister right now - I’ve been reading a lot about introducing the baby to her etc and one of the main things we’re doing is instead of saying that mommy and daddy are going to have a baby, or bring baby home etc but that she’s going to have a little brother - from the very beginning it her brother, something for her … not mommy’s new baby - this approach supposedly helps with the possible jealousy and feelings of being left out or less important

It’s going pretty well, but is most certainly a transition. We have been very intentional to make sure Cec (our toddler) gets special time to herself with each of us every day and that seems to be helping. And then just talking out loud about how much we love baby and love her and all of the happenings around the house. We will keep you posted as we go and good luck!

I never produced enough milk. I had three babies and I was hoping after each baby the milk would increase but nope. I tried really hard especially my third baby was a preemie but finally gave it up and just did bottle feeding.

So, if a newborn has been fed well during the day and tends to sleep throughout the night, should we still wake them up in the night every 3 hours? Would 4 hours be ok?

Do you pump in those early days with the colostrum?

Hi! What are your opinions about introducing the newborn to the rest of the family or extended family especially in the first 1 to 2 weeks of life? I'm referring to more like close contact such as hugging/kissing the newborn. Is it safe for baby? Should parents take any precautions?

Please could I ask you a question. I'm 34 years old and had an ectopic pregnancy over 5 years old. Since trying to convince I've had a few miscarriages and wondering what advice you could give me.

I remember hearing babies are supposed to have 4 wellness checks (newborn hospital f/u, 2w, 4w and 2m) in the first couple of months of life, but in that same time frame, moms only get 1 wellness check. Do you think that's adequate, or do you think moms should get more wellness checks? Granted, a big part of all of babies' visits are to make sure they're gaining weight, monitoring bilirubin levels, etc but shouldn't moms get more care than just one visit?? Thoughts?

They definitely should. I agree. I live in Japan and mom gets two wellness checks. I think around the 1 week mark (which is after being 5 days in the hospital after giving birth) and then at 4 weeks. There’s also a health nurse that visits the house to check in if mom needs any help.

So question post recovery how much do dads normally help out? My husband think as he is bread winner he shouldn’t do any nights (as he needs his 8 hours) and basically it feels like he only wants to do 3 hours of cuddling after work. In the first 3 weeks he was pretty proactive but now he wants his sleep. Meanwhile I have had a C-section, 2 postoperative infections, Covid and going on average 4 hours broken sleep

I had a c section 5 weeks ago, i felt like my husband wasn’t helping enough, I finally just talked to him.. my husband is also the only one working and I do the over nights too. But he works from home so if i need help i just ask , tell him you need help , i cried last night because i was so tired and he took over the feeding …

Thank you for sharing! Quick question, should a pregnant woman be concerned if baby's cord is around its neck in womb? Obgyn doesn't seem to be concerned but I find that alarming wanted to get your opinion! Thanks!

I've heard that can occur around 30% of pregnancies but it rarely causes issues (I'm not a doctor so don't take my word on this but look into it yourself) :)

I believe since baby doesn’t actually “ breathe” while in the womb, it’s totally fine. The doctor will just carefully unwrap the cord immediately after baby is born.
