Thank you so much for making this video. I just got my first test back at 220 and I was really freaked. I tried so hard not to cry my face off, and stress but I couldn’t help it. I’m coming to the end of the evening and this video has really been the most helpful, non fear inducing video I’ve come across. I appreciated you talking about the stages and sharing your actual charts with counts. Thank you sooo much. I still have to go back and test again, so I’m starting my diet change now.

I followed nutritionist Lilly Nichols and and stayed more keto/carnivore during pregnancy taking NAC and Alpha Lipoid Acid. Both help with sugar insulin resistance. 42 years old...I avoid sugar and processed foods after listening to Dr Berry. So far baby is happy and healthy.

This video was so helpful! So true about all the various stages one goes through after getting this diagnosis, I’ve been through all of them after getting diagnosed this afternoon! Finally at the acceptance stage and was searching for some videos about it. I’m 30 weeks with my 3rd child, but much older this time around. I didn’t have any health issues with my first two so this was a complete shock. Looking forward to trying some of these tips!

My glucose challenge test is tomorrow and your video helped me relieve some of the anxiety I'm experiencing about a possible diagnosis. As someone with a family history of diabetes on both sides it's been a nagging worry my whole pregnancy so hearing you talk frankly about the outcomes and your experience was honestly a godsend. I feel like this mountain is more of a molehill and I'll be able to do this if diagnosed! Thank you!!!

this video helped a lot a couple of weeks ago. I was diagnosed yesterday but made some great changes after I watched this when you posted this and it really equipped me for a diagnosis. I was so glad my team is so knowledgeable about this because no one made it seem like my fault and I eat really similarly to you so the IG channels you recommended were wonderful.

Glad I found this video. I'm doing research on gestational diabetes. I took my 1 hour test and it was a little high my midwife said so I have to do 3 hour test which I'm not ready for I get bad headaches when I don't eat anything for a few hours and babygirl kicks out of control on top of it. This is my 6th baby I had to a 3 hr test with my 3rd but I was younger 24 and it came back fine. But now I'm 31 and I'm nervous and sad about it and I didn't even do the other test I'm scheduled for Jan 5. My partner says I'm going to be alright but it's just a lot on top of me being a petite female and my body is in enough pain as it is this just adds to it and Im the one who feels as if I did something and I shouldn't. I just my babygirl to okay. Every sonogram they say she's healthy but since I'm small my baby is small as well my Dr says she's fine and as mom I know that. I'm just really nervous and if I do have it this video has helped with understanding it and I thank you for that 🙏❤

My SIL has PCOS and insulin resistance outside of pregnancy and so when she was pregnant she was on notice with her glucose control from the beginning of both pregnancies. She was able to get a CGM for both pregnancies and having one of them was very very eye opening in showing her what her individual body could tolerate. Interestingly it was a little different between both pregnancies. I failed my 1 hour too but thankfully passed my 3 hour well within range with my daughter.

I'm 14 weeks and 3 days with fraternal twins, and I have just been told I have GD and need to get counseling and kit to manage it. After researching the topic, I was relieved that it was quite common, especially with multiples, and also the fact that the Dr caught it early in my pregnancy. This video also gave me reassurance that it's not my fault but having the knowledge will help my to control it and hopefully get rid of it before it creates complications. Thank you for sharing your experience about having GD.😊

This topic is of much interest to me. I was severely diabetic in my first pregnancy. So much so that I had to be put on insulin twice a day. The day I was told I need to take insulin, I felt like such a failure and defeated because I had been doing everything my dietician and my doc/nurses recommended, including everything mentioned in this video. I remember crying the whole day. Any mothers who are in my shoes, it’s not your fault. Take that insulin and continue everything you were doing to keep your glucose under control. I do have to say that because I was on insulin, I was induced in the 39th week. I did a lot of research on it and it seems that this is standard textbook medical recommendation. Was it one I wanted? No! I had been exercising and preparing my body for natural birth. But alas, childbirth is something that some of us can have no control over. I was skeptical that induction would lead to c-sec and it did. Did I feel like I failed myself again? Yes. But when I had a healthy baby and I did not end up having any major post surgery complications, I was very happy. The happiest was just holding my little bub and knowing that he was not hypoglycemic. That was the goal all along-ensuring a healthy child. And I got one! I am now pregnant with my second. At the first OB appointment I asked what I could do to prevent GD this time. My OB said-nothing! Just have a healthy lifestyle and eat healthy like everyone should normally. I have my 1 hour test in a couple weeks. Stressed? Yes! But I am also better prepared to tackle it. Keeping fingers crossed though!

I was diagnosed with GD at around week 27. The first 30 days were manageable. I got 3 fasting spikes (96-100) and 80% of my after meal tests were within 140 (1hr). However, Im in week 32 and no matter what I do, I'm getting multiple spikes. Im eating the same meals as before and doing the same exercise. Im literally having leftover from a previous meal, and getting a spike having not gotten that before. Im emotionally breaking down because of this. I don't know what is going on!

Thank you for helping share your diet during your gestational diabetes journey! I am wondering though, why did you take the cap off of the tool for pricking your finger? I’ve always seems people leave it on, and it looks way less scary when left on. Is there something about taking that cap off that you like better?

Oh my goodness, I know how you're feeling! Just what you need on top of dealing with pregnancy in general, right? I never did get to have a continuous monitor but it would be so interesting to have one. I just went crazy sometimes with the finger sticks and a few times after certain meals I tested every 15 mins to see what was happening. I noticed a few times that my spike was not at 1 hour, but earlier, like around 30 mins. So the one hour reading would look good and if I had only tested at one hour and two hours, I would have completely missed the spike to 180 at the 30 min mark! I went nuts after my diagnosis and tried to go Keto! I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not with how the rest of the pregnancy turned out. I was 44 years old at the time having my 3rd child. Bubba came out early (37 week 5 days) in the end because my blood pressure was creeping up again (I'd already had preeclampsia come on at the end of my first pregnancy). When he was born my baby was SMALL and jaundice! And he's been much slower with his milestones that my other two. But I think he's relatively normal otherwise, although still very small for his age, was 5th percentile, now 10th percentile. He's my little cherub! I want to say, isn't it true that while gestational diabetes is not our fault as mothers, it does put us all at increased risk of developing T2 diabetes - somewhere around 60% go on to have T2. So learning to eat lower carb as a lifestyle would be prudent. And it's also a great way to drop the baby weight!

Yes that’s a great point! It does increase one’s risk of developing type 2 diabetes in the future so good to continue healthy diet and exercise and continue with annual physicals to monitor for type 2 diabetes. Thanks for sharing!

Why is it safe for our blood sugar level to be under 140 an hour after a meal but dangerous if it's over 95 when fasted? For e.g if my level is 120 after a meal that's good but if it's before a meal it's not. Are high fasting levels (over 95 but under 140) dangerous to the baby?
