Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

My wife and I made a huge bowl of popcorn and grabbed a couple of Mike's Hard Mango and pulled up the original Showtime special from 1981. We laughed and cried for the next hour or so. Paul Reubens brought so much nutty joy into our living room as the kids were growing up, and we will be eternally grateful for having him in our lives all those Saturday mornings ❤️

Lawrence Fishburne should receive a lifetime achievement award for his performance as Cowboy Curtis. And of course, R.I.P. Pee Wee Herman. Paul Reubens.

The sad part is that we were robbed of great Pee-Wee performances for 20 years. Just imagine what Pee-Wee could've done in the 90s and 2000s. Paul had plans to do other Pee-Wee movies. Including an animated movie and/or tv show using claymation with Will Vinton or Aardman. Unfortunately the animated project never came to fruition. But Paul also had talked about doing a Playhouse movie, where the characters left the Playhouse for the first time. Also a dark comedy called The Pee-Wee Herman Story, which was going to be a parody of gritty reboots. But now we'll never know. He did make a comeback, and eventually a netflix movie. But he never regained the extreme popularity he had in the 80s. But the public always loved him, and embraced him. Especially after his unfortunate incident. It almost humanized him in a strage way. It let people know that this was a real person, who had flaws, like all of us. I mean come on, who hasn't enjoyed themselves while watching something made for adult viewing? But it embarrassed him. And he essentially retired the character for 20 years based on the same and humiliation he felt. But he wouldve been welcomed with open arms. And he was when he did return.

What a lovely tribute to a talented man. He will be missed and QUOTED forevermore.

What a significant human we had in Mr. Reubens. Such a major part of many childhoods as Pee-wee Herman. Also really enjoyed his portral as Spleen, in Mystery Men. Rest in Pee Wee, Paul! It was an honor to have been a kid on the verge of adolescence when the world gave us Pee Wee's Playhouse. To this day, at almost 49, should someone attempt to insult me, my go-to is still "I know you are, but what am I?" It's hard to imagine the impact he had on a generation of kids and young adults who were still trying to figure out how to play in life while developing the skills for adulthood. Pee Wee is the adult who refuses to grow up, but he's much loved by everyone he comes into contact with. Refusing to grow up, and instead seeking to turn every moment into an opportunity for playful mayhem, is why Pee Wee Herman became such a cult icon. Paul Reubens will be missed!

My kids still quote his movies after almost 20 years watching his movies. We still have our ",Pee Wee" moments from time to time...gonna miss that kid...😢

Still remember seeing a midnight showing of Pee Wee’s Big Adventure in a packed theater. No swear words, no nudity, no (real) violence yet the theater roared with laughter and nearly everyone jumped out of their seats during the “Large Marge” scene. It was magical. 👏

God was beyond pleased with Pee Wee/ Paul Rubens for being childlike in real life! A lesson most of us forget as we get older.. RIP Paul, your among the children in heaven now!!

Really nice job man, brings tears to my eyes, like I almost forgot my childhood was great because of this guy. I watched that movie a million times over on VHS Pee Wee and Sinead O'Connor within the same weeks. Jeez between celebrities Ive loved or people Ive known life sure is a challenge and watching people go is a hard part of it. It never leaves you... like some people I know, I won't think about them everyday but when I do oh man its like the pain just never leaves you.

I remember watching Fox Family a lot during the end of the 90s going into the 2000s. I was always obsessed with the Donkey Kong Country cartoon that was running at the time, but ANOTHER show that was on that channel at the time were reruns of Pee-wee's Playhouse. The 7-year-old me, having no idea it was from the 80s, grew to become fascinated with the ways Pee-wee made people of all ages laugh with his zany antics. The many memories watching an abundance of episodes from the first two seasons of Playhouse and later discovering Pee-wee's Big Adventure turned him into a childhood favorite of mine whom I will never forget. Reubens did such a wondrous job bringing tons of life into this 80s icon. And now the end credits music for Playhouse has become sadder than ever as he leaves his beloved Playhouse and all his friends for the final time and rides his scooter (or bike, depending on which you prefer) up into the heavens. 😢 R.I.P. 74-year-old here. Every tribute makes my eyes tear up. His aim was for people to enjoy the moment. "Tequila" and "I Meant to Do That!" and so much more. When he brought out the child in me, he struck me as a therapist of sorts. His contribution to the improvement of society is incalculable. Thank you, Paul!
