I have seen number of vlogers based in Canada but this is something I love watching every time and the reason is both of them are simple and straightforward with no show off. The way to presents and video quality is amazing ! I am also living in GTA Toronto so can say they reveal things practically!

All these expenses are reasonable in Toronto, except for the food. $700 for groceries and $500 for food delivery is too much for 2 people. I spend about $250 for groceries for one person and no food delivery. I shop at Freshco, Nofrills and Costco. Loblaws is too expensive.

you kind of have no choice when you dont live near these tho. i wish i could go to costco but the nearest one is very far uptown. frescho and nofrills are also really far for me. Sure I can take the TTC but a 10 min walk is now a 40 min commute. they closed down the T&T downtown as well. So even tho loblaws & longos are expensive.. its close to me. it depends on where you live. I just find the downtown experience is really limited by location especially if you dont have a car. food delivery is totally optional and a luxury

If someone thinks spending 50$ per person on weekend for entertainment, fun or food after 5 hectic and exhausting days is luxury, then he needs to think about getting depressed or low as that’s the only cheapest option to handle home/family/friends sickness out of your own home country. And they don’t have car, otherwise this grocery can bought from Costco under $400 or max $500 but they will end up spending 120 to 150$ on rides for commuting.

I live in downtown by myself. I don't cook so I do delivery everyday Food comes to $1k per month (Freshii, Fresh on Crawford, good healthy and nromal food). Usually I would say $4k/mo is a sweet spot. I own my own marketing consulting business so I can move some of my expenses as business expense. If anyone is looking to save up and buy a house or condo while living in downtown, I would say realistically you need to save around another $4k/mo. So $8 to $9k after taxes if you are working. P.S. - I don't have car and I rent.

For those trying to save money, look for places in the city where transit can get you around quickly but isn't downtown. And look for neighbourhoods where you have shopping options other than Loblaws and other expensive supermarkets. For example, living near Main St. station or Victoria Park station on the Line 2 (east of downtown) or near Kipling or Dufferin station on the line 2 (west of downtown) will still get on into the downtown core relatively quickly, have much cheaper rent, and cheaper grocery stores. On the Line 1, stick to the west side of the line...stations like Eglinton West, Glencairn, Lawrence west offer cheaper areas that can get you into downtown relatively quickly as well. Remember, your monthly transit pass or each transit ticket costs the same regardless of the distance you go. So for those living downtown, they pay $3, ride a slower streetcar for 20-30min on a trip similar to those who live outside of downtown and pay $3 and ride the faster subway. But those who take the subway can live a bit further away for cheaper.

We are renting a one bed basement in 1800 all included, don’t have any car, don’t have any subscriptions, hardly order food from outside once a month, hardly spend 50 on transit and yet our monthly expenses are around 3700. I guess for one, we spend a lot on groceries and for second, Canada has become way more expensive since this video.

Hi Pooja & Saransh, I do really feel for you both that is a lot. I wonder if it’s worth living in Toronto with very high living costs. I think the quality of life doesn’t always mean high costs . Living somewhere cheap and affordable can also mean quality. It’s like saying a $5000 Rolex is better quality because it’s expensive but a $50 watch does the same thing for much lesser price. I think both of you seem intelligent and mature I am sure if you do your research and properly look into it and see if there’s any less cheaper option by the looks of it maybe there isn’t any at the moment. There are certain things you would need to sacrifice to reduce your monthly expenditure especially your phone bills. All the best

So over here, I spend a lot on ordering food in. I pay for myself and my dad & mom (retired businessman & homemaker respectively). I ordered 1 veggie dish with roti/porotta every week during a weekday. Sometimes it's a fish dish. ON Saturdays, which is my day for drinking and ordering what I want, it will be a lot more elaborate. It's a lot more than some families but it helps us. I also tend to buy from certain restaurants that give you a lot more than what you pay for. That helps

Grocery stores in downtown are far more expensive than what we find in suburbs such as Mississauga, Scarborough where there are most NoFrills, Food basics...Loblaws stores in downtown look more fancy obviously but markup on each item can for sure blow up the pocket of many middle class families in GTA... would recommend looking out for FreshCo, Food basics, NoFrills but unfortunately downtown folks don't have that much choice

Oh yes, you don`t need a car if you are staying in downtown Toronto.. We came to Toronto in June this year from US. We are staying 2 mins away from Osgood station and the subway is a savior. However, just wanted to mention, that we hire car during weekends through Turo, so we do our grocery from Costco or Wal-Mart and that's cheaper than Longos or Loblaws. The whole summer we travelled around Ontario & Quebec, so renting all weekends made sense. Now that we are going back to US soon & it's winter here, we have stopped renting the car so often. Another thing I thought I will let you know. We took our Netflix subscription from India, so it's cheaper there. Connect to India through VPN and then subscribe. The premium connection will cost you Rs. 1000.

We are new to Canada and we do a lot of food deliveries and you are not alone... we spend a lot too and bound to happen during initial settlement or may be even after who knows. Anyways, each one has their own personal choices and our choice to shop depends on the commute and access to those outlets near to where we live. Same applies to whether one chooses to live in a happening place like downtown and spend more and enjoy life or live in a basement in suburbs and save money. Its all a matter of personal choice and if you are happy thats what it takes. We dont have a car too and finds it difficult to shop from any far off place and carry it home viz with a kid around.. and we end up taking an uber.

Groceries would not cost 700 per month for a couple most of the times. Most of the couples are able to manage within 300-350 per month without any compromises. It actually depends on the stores you shop from. There are many expensive stores but then there are stores such as no frills, freshco, walmart that can help you with your budget
@JeremyMacDonald1973
@JeremyMacDonald1973 3 жыл бұрын
@@prachisidharthincanada1394 This is a good point. They have this nice really central neighborhood - fantastic for nightlife... all the great clubs and such are walking distance from here and there are loads of good places to eat out however they are far from most grocery stores and the one they are using really racks up the prices... probably because it knows that there are a ton of Condo dwellers with no place else nearby to go to. All that said $350 per person is not actually all that bad. In fact the only reason I think they can stay that low is that they are only cooking 2/3rds of their meals. They order in for the other 1/3.

This is super helpful to someone potentially moving to Toronto in the summer! Just a quick question if its not too personal - what % of your income are you able to save living in a high cost of living city like Toronto? Would really love to see savings (and investments if you guys invest) in a future video!
