Thanks Em for sharing your passion. I have tried many times to press orchid blooms but they become so transparent that I can’t make use of them. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi Cathy, appreciate the comment. I understand about some items going transparent. Not really much you can do about that aspect. Sometimes I will use them in the background if it imparts any interest. For example, I have a mallow that the petals go transparent, but they also have purple lines running through them. The petals have a very faint purple hue and the lines maintain some of their purple color after pressing, so they can add background interest. Thank you for watching:-)

Hi! I'm subscribed to your channel and love watching your videos. I've been pressing flowers for 40years or more but one failure I always have is with Hydrangea flowers. It doesn't matter what time of year I pick the flowers or what colour they are......they always turn brown! How on earth do you get yours to keep their colours?!! I have tried and tried to the point of giving up!

HI, try pressing them between absorbent copy paper and putting that flower sandwich in a book with absorbent paper and weight on top. After a day and a half, take the paper sandwich out of the book, let it sit in the air for several hours, and then place in a new, dry book and put weight back on top. I rotate into dry book/s at least two to three times during the drying process. The other thing I find with hydrangea is that the real early flowers seem more prone to going brown. Try them later in the season but while you can still find blemish fee florets. Also, picking later in the day after any morning moisture is gone helps. Most of the time I press in the late afternoon after the noon day heat is gone. Hope this helps and thanks for watching, Em
