As someone who doesn't really care about a heavy oak influence (I think it's a sign of poorly aged whiskey more often than not) this doesn't excite me. Toasted tends to give more "green" wood notes to me and that's not what I want on a bourbon. Toasted rye works better because those flavors are more complimentary. The Double Oaked Rye is also far better than the bourbon in my opinion. He's my problem with oak - since no one asked. A well aged whiskey starts to become reminiscent of a hyper aged cognac/Armagnac. The difference is that a bourbon that has been aged well for 10+ years often inherits WAY too much oak because we have this love of heavily charred barrels instead of lightly charred well seasoned barrels. Cooperages have been using less seasoned wood and using things like toasting to artificially hide staves and heads that were not air dried for 24+ month seasoning. Ideally a good wood is aged 36 months and then only cooked to a char 1-2. You'll get more wood sugar impact and flavor instead of char. Think of it like a steak. A novice at a grill is likely to char up their meats. Charred steak still tastes pretty good but once you have a steak that isn't charred you realize how much more flavor the MEAT can have instead of just tasting like a grill. Bourbon drinkers have been hoodwinked into wanting their steaks to tastes like a grill instead of tasting like a meat. People are associating good bourbon with oak instead of with whiskey. EC 18 is disgusting - it's oak and bitter oak. EC18 should be blended with other whiskey to tamp down that awful wood instead of using water to just dilute the few bourbon notes to oblivion.

125 at the distillery, I got it for 99 at Party Source. I love this bottle. I've been tearing it up. It's soooooo good.

I would love a Green River Kelvin barrel. I heard there are some New Riff Kelvin barrels too. Any idea how to find either?

I highly doubt this is that old their double oaks are usually sub 5 with picks being in the 6-7 range as years go on it could age up but my guess would be 5-6 max

The Peerless website says it was aged in a char level 3 barrel for 5 years and then moved to the toasted barrel for an undisclosed amount of finishing time. Believe it was $125 from the distillery and probably just a little cheaper if found in stores. I agree, I would take the double oak over this. It is still very good but IMO the age and flavors don't live up to the price for me.

Peerless has been putting out some fantastic whiskey as of late. I think they are finally getting the recognition they have deserved for a long time. Cheers fellas 🥃🥃

I love their DO. I was able to get a few bottles at 84. I can still buy that at 90, which would be my max. I would have a hard time popping 130 for this. I can get Penelope Toasted for 70. Is this twice as good?
