It wasn't Andrey's day today, either. He's stubbornly trying to solve everything with sheer, grunt-infused power and that does work even worse in doubles. Aslan was way better of the two today. He was returning well and was solid at the net for most of the match. Andrey knew he was playing bad, which culminated in bloody knuckles.

A lot of top players run too hot early in their careers - just red-line and get too angry/frustrated in key moments ... which is great because it shows they care and want to do better. But I think Rublev can take some notes from Medvedev, who was always in his own head early in his career (and still susceptible to getting stuck there) but decided to try being more calm and positive on the court. The only player where non-stop self-criticism worked was McEnroe - and even with Mac, he was pretty much a burnt husk by his late 20s.

I think this match highlights the difference between top singles players and top doubles players pretty well. The singles players should have the decided advantage when it comes to baseline rallies, but the top doubles players counter that with their superior net skills and strategy. There were quite a few points that Peers and Polasek won from reflex volleys and court coverage that I think no singles players would have been able to do, and that could have been enough to make the difference for the win.
