OMGoodness this made me cry and I heard the song when it first came out. My husband was my best friend and there was never a day that went by that we didn't say I love you. We were married for 25 years. He asked me last December if I ever got tired of hearing him say I love you. I told him no as long as he never got tired of me saying I love you too. He passed away in January after a long battle with CHF. My husband never once in our 25-year marriage ever looked at another lady like he looked at me. Life lesson here is men treat your women like ladies, and ladies let your men know that they are your heroes. Never forget to say I Love You because you will miss that when it's gone.

And did VERY well too, as you can see from the size of the crowd there to see him. But THIS song, at THIS performance, literally took him from a country Star to a country God and kept him there til his death, which people still grieve. I remember ALL of it, ‘cause let’s face it, I was there. I’m old now and grateful to have seen and heard all of it, from Kenny to the Beatles, from Willie to KD Lang, from SRV to Marty Robbins. From 1968-1984, Kenny Rogers was a staple of the American culture. His songs bordered country western/RnB/ and rock. In that era, most artists had a variety of songs, not just one genre. It was common for people to sing songs written by songwriters (not singers). and little tweaks on the music can switch a rock song to a country, or RnB song. The verse, verse, chorus, bridge, verse, chorus was a popular formula and still is.

Kenny Rogers and the new addition the group he lead has made him so famous. He is written so many songs and his Dolly Parton’s best friend in the whole world. In my day he was known as “the silver fox.” Rest in peace, Kenny.

My favorite country song of all time. And one of only two songs I can perform at karaoke without the lyrics. The other song is Gangsta’s Paradise by Coolio. RIP Kenny. RIP Coolio.

This song was on the Billboard charts for A WHILE. Every radio station in the nation played it. Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton as a duet were the top of the country music game in their day

I actually saw him live on this tour when it hit my hometown of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada and got to go backstage to meet him - the concert promoter was a friend of mine so I had the privilege of front row seats and backstage passes for pretty much every artist he brought into the city. He was wearing the same suit as in this video. Great memory! He was very nice and had a great sense of humour. Gone too soon.

When he sings the lyrics “and yes” that is definitely a signature Lionel Ritchie lyric. What really makes this son so great though, is the way Kenny Rogers is singing it. He switches to that heavy raspy voice, and does it softly at times. Then he gets all powerful and adds emotion to his vocals. It’s just so amazing. He’s got a good vibrato too. Kenny’s the man! RIP

Fact is Lionel Richie was living at Kenny Rogers house when he wrote this song and knew that Kenny was the man to deliver it because of his singing range; there is a Biography video where Kenny talks about this subject and more. Yes Kenny Rogers has his own distinct writing and singing style; is you listen to more elections you will be mind blown, my two suggestions are Coward of the County and Islands in the Stream Keep up the awesome work; love watching your reviews because they are usually spot on.

Kenny Rogers and the First Edition was a rock group with a little country from 1967 - 1970. I'll second the others who recommend Kenny and Lionel duet when they tell the story of how the song was written.

I feel that. I was blessed to him in concert the first time he came to our area, and the last time, on his farewell tour...in the same venue. It was clear he was declining, but it just didn't matter...he was Kenny.❤‍🔥❤‍🔥 his death was a loss.💔

Great reaction. I saw Kenny Rogers in concert in the late 70's. Awesome! His hit with the Fifth Edition is from 1967 "I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" is a must listen. Later you should check out his hits "Lucille", "Coward of the County", "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" and "The Gambler". I think you would enjoy all these songs.
