(M Ball Globe Demonstration) Go buy yourself a nice sized globe, don't skimp, spend some good money and get an adjustable globe, please let it be at least twelve inches (the bigger the better) not some keychain globe. If you haven't bought your compass yet do that also. Go outside, now align your globe with the North Pole using your compass, of course adjusting for the magnetic declination in your area. Next adjust the frame to align the globe to your latitude. This can easily be done by finding your location on the globe and adjusting the frame until you can get your location on the globe to point directly up. Now your globe is aligned to match the Earth as it actually is beneath your feet. At this point you can see where the sunrises and sunsets are occurring both on your globe and on the real Earth. The shadow of the globe blocking the Sun will show it. From your location you will be able to see sunrises and sunsets as they happen on Earth and can be verified by a quick phone call to any place you see the terminator line on your globe. Throughout the day you can use a pencil and align it with the Sun over your globe to get the smallest shadow and pinpoint where on the globe the Sun is directly overhead, and in reality on the actual Earth. You will be able to determine solar noon at any location. You can verify this with a quick phone call to anyone at that location.
