Your time stamps are really off. On the first point, no probably not. Sounds like chou hannou which is correct in the video. You might be thinking of nichokenjuu, short o. On the second point yeah you're probably right. Very noisy section tbf. Does sound like a long ha-i if you aren't listening very close.

@@noblenuance yeah thanks for pointing out the stamps. Its supposed to be 4:37 and 5:09 respectively. On the first one, from my audio, i can hear "ツーハンド". Although this was not included in the clip. The next thing she said was "tsuu hando janai" because rufus combined the guns again. On the second one it is clearly not hai-i because she was clearly shocked from seeing the dash. Also, both words fit in the context of what is happening.

@@jonglopez5400 Yea. Two handed. The 2nd one is a stretched "(he is) fast~~~~" with the yai kinda short (not really after I listen to it a bit more... maybe the playful tone contributes a little).

@@noblenuance it doesnt make sense to say hai-haiiii this particular cutscene. During the 1st and 2nd phase of the fight rufus was clearly just walking and taking his time of the day, then suddenly dashes on the 3rd phase. Plus the intonation and pronunciation will sound weird especially for a natural japanese speaker like her. Edit: i mean 'okaaay' could also fit the conversation. But the pronunciation of it still a bit off, coming from a japanese speaker.

SE tends to go a little overboard with their localizations IMO. I've played a handful of their games in both languages, and some of the changes were so needless that it makes me think they either write two completely separate scripts or they run the original script through a machine translation and just have an editor clean it up as best as they can.

It's certainly subject to taste. Japanese prose tends to be a little bland and predictable. Pekora was able to quote dialogue before it was spoken many times over the course of her playthrough. I've done the same with several FFs. But I think SE localization tends to take it too far in the other direction. Very flowery stuff.

@@PlagueDoctorTL I believe in writing we call that "flare". Though to be more serious, dialogue heavy scenes should have a way to keep the audience engaged and not bored throughout the exchange. If anything, I think most SE games don't really go far enough to spice up their localizations as far as dialogue. It obviously shouldn't be a full on rewrite but it should definitely be written by to be a little more appealing and interesting for the west(as a localization should be) if this video's translations are accurate. FF7R to me is the standard localizations should be. Really sells the characters and their personalities while still keeping things engaging

I definitely prefer the over-the-top sexiness of Rufus in the EN dub. It feels more appropriate somehow - FF is constantly dancing back and forth between pathos and camp, and the dub Rufus injected just the right feelings at the right time in the game.

You can hit him with Braver when he reloads but he’s very good at covering himself before reloading so you really gotta be prepared.

He is susceptible to Stop and Sleep, but only once so you gotta make it count.
