There are only 2 newbies Pekora tried to hunt Subaru and Aqua ( korone and Botan had pro coaching them). She beat Subaru badly (Subaru even had PTSD not now tho she grew stronger ) and lost to Aqua 7-10 in this video.

Every time i watch aqua play a different game she always blows my expectations away. She's so impressive, truly a gamer at heart. Also her banter with peko chan is top tier haha. Took a while for us to get blessed with peko aqua but it was worth the wait!

can honestly say I didn't expect pekora to tell aqua to savour her ass. also seems like aqua realized in the first match that she actually was better and didn't even abuse hadouken as much as she could have if she wanted to win more convincingly (cheesily)

A lot of low level habits like DI and butt slam spam and jumping around naturally beat hadouken, so Aqua probably started using it less due to being punished.

This is so common with people who start to get into a fighting game, learn some stuff about it, drill a combo or blockstring into their head, and rely on it exclusively. As soon as they run into someone who knows just when they can do a parry or reversal in the string to make them eat shit, they're not prepared to handle the natural back-and-forth of two players who have a well-rounded (regardless of skill level) understanding of the game. Not that there's anything wrong with falling into that habit in the first place, it's natural, but until they break the habit, they're going to be a scrub that can crush newbies at best.

I think the skill levels are too erratic for a tournament to be enjoyable. Botan would beat everyone, Korone would beat everyone minus Botan. Peko vs Aqua could be okay to watch but that’s about it really.

Skill gaps are too big, and learning FGs takes a lot of time investment. So those that played the longest will just steam roll the newbies. Not even accounting the scheduling as most of them have different time slots and pre planned streams. There's too much hurdle to actually host a fun tournament.
