Some tips so ya don't launch a 15 dollar jackhammer and watch your leader go flying like I did. Took me a few weeks, but I figured things out. Make sure the wraps are tight. You can take your fingers off from holding the knot to check and readjust, just keep constant pressure and be gentle. Then after your first half hitch, wet your line and pull hard on your mainline and leader, it should tighten it up and the braid should change color. If it slips off at this point, it's a bad knot and ya need to start over. From there two more half hitches, tightened hard with wet line, then I like to snip my fluoro leader with just about an eighth of an inch remaining sticking out, then do a 6 wrap rizutto. The rizutto covers the rest of the fluoro, and makes it nice and smooth, so it goes through the guides nice and easy on the retrieve.

My problem with jackhammers has been the clinch knot on the end. Lost two with the knot failing. Never had that knot fail on anything else. So i think i need a new terminal knot.

That's AWESOME! I've been tying the FG a few years now by holding the line tight with my foot, bending my rod tip over to try and keep the line tight, and all sorts of things. This will happen tonight when I get home, looks too easy, but I really like easy with great results!!! Thank you!!

hey seriously thanks for this tutorial, i was using a double uni which has never failed me before but i started to look for a better knot and came across some FG tutorials which looked super ridiculous and like you'd need a third arm to tie the bloody thing and i wasn't convinced. i came across your video and it seemed so much nicer to tie this way, and now its my favorite knot. i could break my double unis when i tried really hard but i cannot break this no matter how hard i pull and now i have way more confidence in my rigs i know when that big fish comes he wont be lost because of a knot i tied. cheers man appreciate it.

Finally the right video is here. I have seen the knot done in a very similar way before in another video, and I quickly adopted it to my own fishing. All the other tutorials are far too complicated IMO, so I learned this triangle method and it has never let me down. You do not have tag ends flying all over the place and you have every bit of line tightened in your hands. To make sure the braid bites from the beginning of the knot, I pull it tight at an angle to the leader after the first 6-8 turns and repeat. Giving a total of around 12-16 turns. This will insure that the braid is tight all the way. It shows when the braid has changed its color slightly. I make the rizutto finish around the main braid including the leader. Keep the great videos coming. It is always a pleasure to watch.

Idk if it’s because I’ve watched 59 other tutorial videos on this while trying “real time” or if your video is actually one the worked for me. I honestly think it’s because I’ve now tried this knot 60 times and have finally succeeded 😂

@Pelagic Pursuit - keep in mind that when people are discussing 16-22 times for this knot, they are referring to just one side. So over once, under once. For them that's two. You are doing two at a time, so one for you is two for others. When you did 15 times at the end, that is equivalent to people doing over/under 30 times. But nice rendition of the FG Knot.

Female fisho here, alot of the tips and tricks for knot tying i see for fishing seems so similar to what we tween girls did back in the 90s when making our friendship bracelets! The triangle "criss cross" method was what we used too 😳 it's a lost art form, we never had videos back then, it was all handed down to us from the older girls at school. Lol fishos could learn a thing or two from watching friendship bracelet videos nowadays 😂

Now I"m cutting down to 15 twists, been doing 20. Been waiting for this fg thing from you and finally you made one. Will be using this on my next braid to leader knot. ☺
@sunshinecycling2 жыл бұрын
Northern, if you do 15 times of his way, you are actually doing 30 of your old way - assuming you used to do over once, under once. He is doubling up - each one of his is two of yours. Nothing wrong with that, but you are actually doing more twists.
@NorthernFishers2 жыл бұрын
@@sunshinecycling I was following Briggsy's fg, it was 20 twists.. now with 15 twists, never encountered a problem with it yet.. 😊
@sunshinecycling2 жыл бұрын
@@NorthernFishers Oh, I thought you switched to this method. But 15 is an odd number...I would think you would want an even number. I think Salt Strong does 16? Not sure, but the only time I had one fail, it was around 16...but I probably didn't cinch it tight as I made it...user error I'm sure. But Pelagic's 15 is like you doing 30 with Briggsy's method.

Hey Mate! Looks like I am a year late to the table! Awesome youtube find! I love the FG knot, for all the reasons you described. I have 3 different ways to tie them, all are still a bit clumsy (more my fault than the process). I really like your triangle wrap/weave method. I look forward to trying it with the 10LB braid and 20lb mono leader. Tieing those light lines can be a challenge sometimes , especially in the wind, in the kayak. This is the way i tie my FG knot too, when u get used to it it'll be second nature and it's fast and strong too. No gadget or tools needed and i usually go about 15 to 20 wraps for my big set up because if u go anything more it might weaken the knot and i will get wind knots. I use this knot on my 80lb braid to 140lb leader and it never failed me even once!! Awesome knot. 💪
