Glad I found your channel, Jeff. It is very insightful. Wish you were here in Northern Ohio. We are looking to replace our current vinyl windows with Pella (coming Friday) or Renewal by Anderssn (was here this morning). I was sticker shocked at the cost of 22 windows (wood look interior) of over $50k. Over $2k per window installed. Wow! Needless to say we will wait to see what Pella has to offer.

Jeff, I have some feedback that may be useful on owning these windows in Texas. I’ve had them for two years in black, and they have been great for the most part. They still look mostly new after cleaning. One piece of advice I have is to get the glass spotless if you’re going to clean them. I gave them a “quick clean” one day and left some slight streaks on the outside. The sun baked them in and now I can’t get those streaks out. Another small thing that annoys me is the cheap plastic pull tab on the screens. One summer in the west Texas sun and they all disintegrated. I called pella and they sent me more tabs to install. I was frustrated that they expected me to do it myself after paying 5 figures for brand new windows 6 months before. I didn’t bother because they will just disintegrate again. So getting the screens out is slightly more difficult than it should be, but overall that’s a small thing.

I have watched every single video of yours and I think you and your wife seem like great people and I would hire you in a heartbeat if you only lived closer!!! When it comes to windows, your videos are the best information I’ve seen on-line yet. I live in PA where we get cold winters. We live in an old farm house which was remodeled 20 years ago with Anderson windows. My husband and I have not been pleased with the Anderson product and want to try a different line. To say the least I am getting confused. The Marvin Ultimate looked appealing to me especially when you said they are made in Minnesota and they know what they are doing when it comes to cold weather. But, I thought that aluminum was not energy efficient and that fiberglass was better? Which Marvin window is most energy efficient for cold weather? I just watched your video on Pella Impervia and because it is a fiberglass/composite I am asking if this would be the better choice? Thanks so much, Vonnie
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching all my videos! then Marvin window video that you watch was describing a wood window that had an aluminum exterior. Wood windows are also very good at insulating. The reason for the aluminum on the outside is so that it will withstand harsh weather and not rot. Marvin also makes a fiberglass product, you should check it out. I personally like the looks of the Pella impervia much better. It looks more luxurious in my opinion. Stay tuned for more videos soon!

We just had Pella out to our home and bought the Impervia windows. The sample looked so great compared to our old windows. Our old windows were vinyl, builder grade, and lasted about 20 years (which is great). The color of the glass in the Impervia windows was more of a green/gray color and we did notice that difference. We are having six windows replaced. Two of the window are fixed (one of which has a "dome" shape at the top) and the other four are single hung. All have grids on the inside, however, we did not get grids on the "dome" part as we thought that would look more modern (we did get grids on the lower part of this window as this window is considered two windows). The total cost was $16,500. They wanted half up front and the remainder upon completion. We did not finance and they gave us the cash "discount." We put it all on our credit card with no additional fees. Lead time is about eight weeks.

We priced out Anderson 400 series but like the idea of a single hung which Anderson does not have many options. Then went to the Pella showroom and really liked all there products. A fiberglass window will cost less money than a wood window with an aluminum cladding. No, Windsor does not make any fiberglass windows. They do have a composite window called Legends. Pella used to make a window that you could remove one side of an air filled chamber. Those were amazing and lasted forever because there was no chance of condensation inside. All you would do is take out the interior panel and clean it. That's probably why they stopped making them....

Hey Jeff, love all your videos. I still watch them even after buying replacement windows. I ended up buying all new Pella Impervia replacement windows. The installer went around, measured and never gave any concerns. After install, I asked them why they are sticking out so far from the window trim and they said they're sealed and won't leak. After Googling, they seem to have done a insert replacement rather than a full jamb replacement. They ensure me that they won't leak. But just after our first rain storm, the window glass had so much rain on them from constant dripping, I can tell they'll always be dirty. At least our old aluminum windows were flush with the trim and the flashing above deflected the dripping rain out away. I read through my install contract and it doesn't specify insert or full replacement. What are your thoughts on a window protruding almost a half inch past the siding and trim board around the exterior window? I'd have to either buy thicker trim or do you think they're trying to get away with poor planning? Please advise
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
Anytime they install them like they did on your project, it was their way of saving time which equals saving money for them. It's too bad that they did not do things the best way possible. The only other reason I can see them doing that would be if there was something on the inside of the house that prevented them from coming in further. Do you have plantation shutters?
@pizzacook84
@pizzacook84 Жыл бұрын
@@HoustonWindowExperts thank you for replying! No we don't have anything that would hinder the installer from coming further into the house. Is that still possible without any damage being done to the windows?

You would have had to have ordered a different type of window and measured it differently if you were going to do a full tear out. If you're not happy with the outcome you have, I would bring it up with the owner of the company you bought the windows from and try to come up with a resolution.

@@HoustonWindowExperts yeah the owner is saying that he did cut drywall and brought it back, but he said he always awesome the window stick out 3/8 of an inch so that the water hits its and runs off the front versus relying on caulking. I don't know what to believe, the windows seem to be solid, but the 3/8" jut out just bothers us. I'm sure they were just saving time, but he keeps telling me that's how they prefer to do install so there isn't water issues. Do you think 3/8inch is acceptable?

Worst case Pella goes out of business, just like our current window manufacturer did (Pozzi). What about the heat transfer rate? I heard fiber glass and aluminum not really good at it compare to vinyl
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 3 жыл бұрын
Vinyl is the best for heat transfer. Fiberglass would be second.
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 3 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. Both fiberglass and vinyl are low-conductive materials and do well with heat transfer. The advantage of fiberglass over vinyl is its superior strength and its minimal expansion and contraction rates which helps to keep its seals.

Casement window better or sliding window ?
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 3 жыл бұрын
It can depend on what you're trying to accomplish. Casement windows cannot be made very wide while sliding windows can be made super wide. If you can make the window in either type question then a casement would be better.

Are these windows better in performance compared to the Pella 350? I am looking to install in the basement, New York weather.
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 2 жыл бұрын
The 350 is discontinued but the Pella Impervia is an excellent product that would give you the performance you need for New York weather. It does have the option of a foam-filled frame for additional insulation.

@@HoustonWindowExperts Given the Pella 350 is discontinued, are the Pella 250 any good? Separately, what's your thoughts on Marvin Infinity compared to Pella Impervia?
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 2 жыл бұрын
All of Pella vinyl windows use the exact same ingredients. They are just different extrusions for different applications. You would be happy with any of their Vinyl products. I like both of the fiberglass products available from Pella and Marvin. That would be a tough call. In this case, the installer would be the deciding factor.

Is the Argon gas an issue with these windows leaking? Please advise.
@HoustonWindowExperts

All windows are estimated to leak about 1% of gas per year. Cheaper and more inferior products tend to leak much much faster.

I received shipment of 22 of pella impervia double hung windows . (Took 3.5 months to receive). This is a new build but I have done whole house windows 3 times. This is my first pella experience. They look lovely. The feel/function of them..awful. Cheap cheap- so disappointed esp for the price point. Too bad and too late unfortunately…I have to live w them.
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts 2 жыл бұрын
I hate to hear that. Sometimes it's the installer who creates function issues. We never hear that o the units we've installed. I'd look into why that's happening and consult with Pella to see what can be done. If there is a showroom nearby, go check out their samples and see if they are better.

Hey Jeff, thank you for the review. I found that almost every PRO on Houzz forum is advising against Pella and running from it like a plague, especially 250 and Impervia.. I am really confused by your positive review 🤔
@HoustonWindowExperts

I think that everyone, including myself, has a bias based on their experience. Pella makes windows that end up in many different distribution chains. If they end up in the hands of a company that does not deal with Windows exclusively, sometimes the complications and installing a quality product or overlooked. We have had no issues whatsoever with the Pella products. The minor issues we've had, have been quickly and easily resolved.

@@HoustonWindowExperts I think that personal experience aspect complicates the decision process for those spending lots of time online reading and watching reviews .. especially first time homeowners like me. For example, some of those pros mention that Impervia build quality is subpar and looks cheap compared to Marvin Essential which they consider superior

They must have a financial bias. I sell both and have a preference towards the Pella because of it's looks, fit, finish, and customer service.

Nothing about the maintenance required to keep the fiberglass warranty from being voided??? Their warranty is voided if you don’t paint them every year!
