so your bike is "friction resistance" which is where the sound comes from but a lot of cheaper bikes have magnetic resistance which is silent! so just a tip for anyone doing a Peloton hack, look for a bike with "magnetic resistance"!😁👍

Most of the cheaper bikes are "friction resistance", it is very hard to find a magnetic resitance bike under $300. After I researched all top selling bikes on Amazon, my conclusion is under $500, Consider joroto x2. Under $700 consider Sunny 1805, under $1000, consider Schwinn IC4 or Echelon EX3. More than $2000, Peloton!

I have the Sunny 1805 and the Wahoo cadence monitor. It was 625 for the all around package and I love it. The Sunny has 45lb flywheel and I can def tell the difference in quality compared to some cheaper bikes I have used. It is noise free and on the bike mat I purchased it hasn’t bothered my neighbors below either. Def recommend. Also, my partner and I share the account on Peloton and just pay one fee a month 👏

If you’re interested in getting a Peloton Bike but can’t afford the up-front cost, they do have a financing option where you only pay a little each month, and you can also purchase a secondhand Bike and set up a Peloton Membership, which is a less expensive option as well! I have a friend who financed her Bike, and another friend who purchased her Bike secondhand.

I did the peloton hack for about 6 months and then broke down and bought the real peloton. I can say I do really love the actual peloton better because I love knowing my exact cadence, resistance, and output- plus I realized I really wasn’t keeping up with the instructor like I thought I was. Plus I like “following” my friends who have a peloton as well and it helps keep me motivated knowing other people can see my progress. Also the peloton is literally silent- like it was so quiet it took me a while to get used to. For me the actual peloton was worth the investment- but I really enjoyed the hack version as well.

Same here. When you have a high end machine there’s really no comparison. Not saying the cheaper versions don’t work, they TOTALLY do. But if you think you’ll be in this for the long haul I def recommend getting the actual peloton. It’s 100% silent and just really really well made.

My sister has a peloton but she can easily afford it and I was interested but not able to get one. I thank you so much for your first video. I was already a fan of you so it was a totally random watch but I went for it. I have the “pooboo” bike from amazon with the wahoo monitor and I do it with a TV mounted on my wall in my little home gym with my tik tok teen LED room lights. It entirely changed my experience with SAD as a girl who hates winter and lives in CT. I’m a Cody and Kendall girl lol. But seriously thanks Carrie. I love it and needed a push.

Hey! Since you're in CT, you should try out Joyride. They have the majority of their studios in CT and two in TX, which are the ones I go to. They have been on top of cleaning and social distancing and have outdoor pop-up spaces as well. I highly recommend Rhodie and Mackenzie. It's been a while but they do offer a first-class is free promotion. It is also a smaller community so I feel more connected to other riders, even those that don't go to my home studio.

I love pole and and aerial classes, a home pole is fairly affordable and tons of great online pole classes. Aerial silks and lyra aren't so easy to do at home, but would love to see you try those when things are open and safe. You build so much strength as well as confidence. Pole can be dancey, flowy and artistic, exotic/sexy, or strength/fitness, trick focused, so much variety and fun to explore all aspects. Although the atmosphere of the studio I go to was also a huge factor, everyone is super supportive. I do still love it in our online virtual class mode as well, but miss the cheering when you nail something you've been struggling with.

The Peloton is pretty much silent, the only noise I noticed was the “washer” on the cleat from my spin shoes, which I just tightened, but it’s so quiet. My husband could do it and I could sleep through it - if it wasn’t for his breathing. I broke my butt in by using spin bikes at my gym before the Peloton came and I honestly thought I (my butt) would never recover. After a couple weeks of consistent use, no more pain. When the Peloton came I got on and no pain, no shorts/seat change needed either. Cody Rigsby is my favorite instructor, just love him and his playlists. It’s like hanging out with a best friend.

I did this hack and love it. Cadance pretty much depence on each individual person even with a peloton. A good point of reference for resistance is if the instructor says the cadence should be 60 and you are doing 85 that means you should add more resistance. Hope it helps.

I have had a peloton for almost a year now! It’s my favorite purchase ever and I really don’t have any regrets! The bike is now also cheaper (still about 1,645 or something like that) but definitely more affordable than the 2000+ price tag! The bike is very quiet to ride so that’s a plus and the seat is more firm than what yours looks like but I prefer this over squishy ones!

Peloton owner here! Have had the Bike+ since October. The bike is nearly silent. I’m 6” tall and plus size and the bike feels incredibly stable even out of the saddle- which was one of the main reasons I went with the Peloton vs a cheaper option (plus I am one of those people who thrives off seeing my metrics). I’m personally super happy with my investment- and I felt I could justify it even more so as we also have two riders in my household (my fiancé also rides). The seat was really rough to adjust to- not going to sugar coat it. I had a seat cover AND padded shorts and the first week was still pretty brutal- but over time I adjusted to it and don’t use the cover or shorts anymore. I have never been a regularly active person in my adult life- and I’ve consistently been riding 3-5 times a week since our bike was delivered. Love it!

I tried the peloton app but lately I've been using apple fitness+ with my non-peloton stationary bike. I like it much better than the peloton because the instructors don't really focus on specific numbers (resistance, cadence) but they do give indicators like you said - this should feel hard, if you can add resistance you should. It made me feel more in control of my workout and it also doesn't defeat me when I can't keep up with the set numbers. i love love love apple fitness+ !

The Peloton is 100% worth it.A YMCA membership in my area would have been around $100 a month for my husband and myself combined which is what we pay for the bike and app monthly. (60 for bike and 40 for app) Being able to workout at home and whatever time (we both work nights) is a definite bonus for us as well. I dont even bother with the leaderboard I just work to beat my own personal records but knowing your cadence and resistance and pushing yourself is very rewarding. Your butt gets used to the seat after probably a week. I ordered padded bike shorts and honestly didnt need to because I'm so used to the seat now.

I’ve owned my Peloton for almost four years, and I think for those who can afford it, it’s worth it if 1) A high quality bike is important to you. It is extremely solid and completely silent. 2) You care about improving your actual athletic performance. Carrie describes it as “being into the numbers” (which at least to me sounds like she’s being a bit negative), but if you actually want to improve, you need metrics. My favorite instructor is Matt Wilpers, whose mantra is to train smart. That’s really all “the numbers” are good for. 3) You really want to feel like part of the peloton community during rides. Taking live rides, giving and receiving high fives is actually quite motivating.

The $40 a month for peloton when owning the actual bike turned me off, so I ended up purchasing the schwinn ic4 which I love! I pay $13 a month with the peloton app, which is a much nicer price. And my bike includes cadence and resistance levels (although the resistance levels don’t match up, it’s easier for me to get to where they’re at knowing what number I’m on. I typically subtract 20 from what they call out and that works for me) it was $850 tax included when I used a 10% off coupon at dick’s sporting goods!

We were looking for a bike last March (when everyone else was too and had very limited options due to availability). We ended up buying an Echelon bike. Echelon, like Peloton, has classes on and off bike (cycling, boot camp, yoga, pilates, weights, etc...) - it is an amazing app with TONS of options. One of the great things about Echelon is that they have different bikes at different price points. There is one available at Walmart for around $400-500 up to the one with the large screen attached for around $1500. I have used both Peloton and Echelon and found the online classes very comparable and equally as great. Just another option. :) I love this hack though - gives people many options if they are interested in at-home cycling classes.

Get the QZ app to and use it with the Peloton app. It will give you a resistance conversion. Not sure if it would work for your specific bike since it doesn’t have Bluetooth but it’s $4 and if you have a Bluetooth bike , for example for me, it tells me my echelon resistance and then my peloton conversion. Also it will connect to a heart rate monitor that will connect to the app and it will tell you output too (labeled as kjoules in the QZ app).

Another tip! If you are having numbness or pain in the soft tissue area ( not just seat bones) please consider a seat without a nose or a noseless hybrid like an ISM saddle. More folks have issues with this while biking than you'd think.

Good point on the metrics thing I bought an Amazon bike and set up a cadence sensor in January. I’ve ended up liking the peloton classes so much, but am so frustrated not knowing my resistance that I’ve purchased an actual peloton bike and am selling the Amazon one. I’m basically just justifying it as a trial run before the real thing. I’m excited to actually have all of my metrics

I was using a used gym stationary bike by the company SPiNNER for almost a year and really enjoyed it. I pulled my bike up to my computer and pulled the app up on the Peloton one app and it was great. Nice that you can pause a ride because you aren’t competing. It was hard for me to know where my tension was- I had no way to measure output...which was fine but I wanted to know if I was pushing myself. When I got the peloton bike plus, it was a total game changer for me. Being able to monitor my heart rate, my zone, and where I show up on the lead board is super motivating to me. I went from a nice ride 3-5 times a week to riding 6-7 times a week and I am motivated to work harder. My fitness has changed/increased tremendously. I do enjoy all the face book groups, I like being able to use the leader board filters so I can do a ride and know who is riding with me or filter to a group (like Cody’s or by my state or age). I think pulling or a trainer up to a computer or iPad is totally cool and still so fun..I’m just adding my experience into the chat. I love this damn bike and app.

I have a Bowflex C6 ( which is the same as the Schwinn IC4) and I use the Peloton app. My bike is magnetic resistance and very quiet and very sturdy. This hack is more expensive than yours but a hella lot less than the Peloton. I enjoy your POV so much and enjoy your bike!

I love my Peleton! Ali, Cody and Tunde are my fave instructors. I think the seat is pretty comparable to the bikes I’ve ridden at in person classes and agree that you get used to riding and over any discomfort in a few rides. I also recommended the meditation, yoga and weight lifting Peleton classes.

I have a Peleton. The bike is super quiet! You can barely hear it when your cycling and the bike is not wobbly. I have taken so many classes from Soul Cycle to Equinox, but Peleton classes are harder than any class group cycling class! Take Olivia, Leanne, and Ben!!! They are the bomb!

Im all about listening to our body, but you do have to push yourself sometimes or you wont see much improvement. I have taken cycling classes in my gym four times a week for years and for a while I was not getting out of my confort zone and it was not geting any easier, it was when I really started to challenge myself and push throught the "pain" that I went from begginer to a now advanced indoor cyclist. Really good video btw

A Stryde bike is cheaper than Peloton. Plus Stryde lets you download your own apps like the Peloton app, Netflix, Hulu, KZfaq, etc. The peloton app is 12.99/month so it's a much cheaper option. We are ordering ours next week :)

So I have the same bike and the seat doesn’t squeak or move at all so maybe it’s just the bike you got. Totally agree on being able to hear when resistance gets harder.

I also want to mention that if you're cycling, I would recommend getting shorts that are actually made for biking! There are shorts with a build in pad on the butt area, and that definitely helps!

Hi Carrie! I have a Peloton bike and I actually got mine on Facebook marketplace 😝 I love mine! Leanne Hainsby, Hannah Corbin and Dennis are my favs 😍 also plus the guy who had it before me swapped out the seat for a more comfy one bc he said the peloton original one was tiny and uncomfortable haha

After your first video I ended up buying a Sunny bike and using the app. The bike I got has the cadence built in and I find that helpful. Working from home I love the option to hop on during my lunch break or after work. I love Ally Love, Jenn Sherman and Robyn Arzon the best so far. I am finding my body can do more and more as I keep with it. I also love the outside classes for walking and walk run.

I just bought a knockoff pelaton bike bc of this video and so far am super happy I didn't splurge on a real one. The classes are so much cheaper on my iPad and I'm not really bothered by not knowing exact numbers. Definitely not worth the crazy price to me.

I bought. Joroto bike on Amazon for about 400.00,,love it! I spent a lot of time researching bikes and programs. Riding 5 days for 30 min then 1 off day and repeat. Started the Peloton hack on New Years because they offered 2 months free then 12.99 month plus tax. Peloton gives calories burned at end of workout and is within 5 calories displayed on my bike. Overall happy with my decision to get a bike, but the Peloton price put me off.

I did see a video where the guy said the padded resistance bikes need a bit more upkeep than the magnetic resistance bikes because obviously there is going to be some wear on the pad. You can use a type of oil on the flywheel that has the pad and it takes care of the sound. Maybe look it up and find out.

Did the hack and I don’t regret it. The app is ~$14 per month with taxes with the peloton is around $45 per month. Plus the cost of the bike and I definitely don’t feel guilty when I don’t workout
i tried the "peloton hack" and saved $2,000 (not clickbait)!
