Pen and Ink Sketching on Painted Paper. Adding White Highlghts. Peter Sheeler

Sketching on Colored paper adds the advantage of using a white for highlights. Creating your own painted sheets gives you endless possibilities for color and tone.
Both Pineconedesignwerks and Chammi were quick to point out that idea. Thanks guys.
This is an technique I enjoyed and will be experimenting with.
MATERIALS:
PEN: A TWSBI ECO Fountain Pen with Extra Fine Nib. This is a piston fill type of pen that holds a huge quantity of ink. Higgins Eternal Ink. Water soluble.
PAPER: Size- 5"x7"
Arches 1401b Cold Press Paper with a light wash of Sepia and Burnt Sienna.
BRUSH: A Sakura medium size waterbrush. This brush has a reservoir in the handle. With a squeeze you can apply water to activate paints or clean the brush. Takes some practice to control the flow.
Cretacolor chalk pastel.

It always amazes me how you go about your sketches...most artists draw some kind of basic outline then add the details...you just get right in there! Fantastic! Love to watch you draw...thanks 😀

I just love your work I practice by doing some of the work you have done and try a few of my own pictures, each video I watch and try i seem to improve a little it deffinitley helps my out look on what I see around me. I find myself walking and taking pictures of all sorts of stuff now thanks.

I have learnt a hundred techniques from you already. Today I learnt how to work with a coloured paper when you have none! A few brush strokes on white paper and you have your own coloured paper. Simply superb, Peter!

I became interested in watercolour because of your beautiful line and wash style. Thank you for sharing your skill and technique. I am currently learning colour theory and working on a 24 colour mixing chart; quite the process and learning curve. When you used the water brush did you add paint to it or were you moving the ink around creating the darker colour?

Thanks Marek. The ink is Higgins fountain India. Don't be fooled by the ink name. It is not waterproof and won't harm a fountain pen.
