Thank you for these videos on the Shape Origin. They are perfect for beginning users (like me). I like that you step slowly through each part of a procedure. I think the introductory videos produced by Shaper tend to go to quickly or not explain in sufficient detail what they are doing. Making videos for beginners is difficult but you are doing a great job! Please keep up the good work.

I think you’ve pushed me over the edge re: a shaper origin. I also greatly appreciate including mistakes in your vids - I tend to make a lot of those!

Great video. From my experience with Shaper is I cut the inlay piece first and then when I make the pocket I can use the Shaper’s offset to make a perfect fit for the inlay. It’s exactly the opposite if I was cutting by hand. Love these video’s. Cheers, Brian

Sedge - You can use the auto lock to automatically set the proper feed speed by holding down the green button or by double clicking on the green button at the start of the cut. Try it and you will you will use autospeed on all your cuts!

I’d love to see how good of a fit you can get on a walnut bow tie into maple or ash. I’m considering one of these and want to see how accurate it is for very high end work.

Can you add the rounded corners to the piece you’re cutting from the screen on the Shaper? Or is that something you would need a computer for

Mr. Sedge - could this do sliding dovetails? That would be really cool!!

It can and can also do normal dovetails. The only drawback is Shaper has an automatic abort mechanism that you can’t override. If you are making a cut and you cause the Shaper to abort the cut by going too fast or outside the cutting range, for example, the dovetail bit will retract and ruin the sliding dovetail. Just have to be take your time and be steady and you can easily cut a sliding dovetail. I often use a straight bit to cut normal dado’s and grooves.

Why do you cut in the opposite direction for the pocket?

Has anyone tried down-cut spiral bits? Seems like with such small cuts, it wouldn't make the machine hop... and would eliminate all the frazzle & tear out at the top?

@@sedgetool Thanks for replying. It seems like they might be a better choice for inlay work, where the very top of the piece is what shows. But so far, I haven't seen anything but up-cut bits in videos... and frazzle.

It just occurred that clients can be involved by doing the drawing of the bowtie or whatever giving them more connection or buy-in to the service you are providing to them.

How did the router go deeper than 6mm that was entered and zeroed? Seems like it needs adjusting to correct zero.
@ericthedorecartman
@ericthedorecartman 10 ай бұрын
On softer materials the weight of the machine pushes the bit in a bit before the sensor detects it. You can manually zero (with a scrap sheet of paper slid under for example) or zero on harder material.
@sedgetool
@sedgetool 10 ай бұрын
the material is not quite 6mm
