We decided a couple years ago to include a pencil sharpener in our little guy's kit. He is now four (4) years old and enthusiastic to assist in firemaking. We are looking to secure better quality sharpeners as you demonstrated and will likely have to import some to our home base in the Philippine Islands. Making shavings with the sharpener is a safe activity for our little one when the older troops and or parents collect firewood and set up camp. When we think about it, you actually have a small multi-tool. A quality sharpener will: 1. Do its intended job sharpening a pencil. 2. Make shavings to aid in starting a fire. 3. Offers you a small but sharp emergency blade and 4. If you are lucky enough to score a sharpener with magnesium housing, a source of magnesium to scrape for those stubborn wet conditions we often have in the tropics. Excellent presentation and thank you, we now have b rand names to search for.

Hello good demo. I agree supplements a fire kit and don’t replace other cutting tools. I’ve made feather sticks and used pencil sharpeners. Pencil sharpener “wood” need a certain size, but virtually any one can use it, and done while laying down for example. Take CaRe

Yeah, they aren’t brilliant. The military mag bar is much more viable. As kids the stadler pencil sharpener was always part of our little pocket survival tins, that’s back when they were made of magnesium. Only really any good for an emergency, when you’ve got less than perfect tinder. The only pro of the KUM sharpener is the blades are good quality and very sharp. Great demo. 👍

a pencil sharpener expands your kit and adds to your kit, it never replaces anything, you add to your kit never take things from it.
