It had been set aside for years in the Marche capital but after a long time it was finally decided to recover the other half. We are talking about the exceptional ETR401 Pendolino built by FIAT Ferroviaria di Savigliano, completed in 1976 and entered into service on 2 July of the same year. It mainly carried out the connections between Rome-Ancona and Rimini. For about 6 years there were no problems, but in 1983 when the moment of the second revision came, the management took the decision to remove it from the railway service, considering it a single train that took a lot of the various workshops. On 23 May 1985 on the occasion of the new ETR450 project, the ETR401, after a series of modifications, was used for a test run between the capital of Italy and Chiusi Chianciano Terme, covering the slow line on the outward journey and the direct route on the way back. . Four years later, he carried out test runs on the Ljubljana-Maribor line, an electrified Yugoslavia railway as in Italy with 3 kV current. Arriving in Domodossola on February 2nd, it was towed by SBB Re 4/4 10102 and between the same day and February 15th 1991 it carried out test runs between Bern and Lucerne and between Bern and Thun-Brig. On 8 December 1995 he crossed the Strait of Messina to reach Villarosa station on the occasion of the inauguration of the nearby museum. In 1997 he made several trains between Lombardy and Calabria, all paid for by the region for tourists who wanted to spend their holidays in the south. After the construction of other trains, at the beginning of the 2000s, it was set aside in Ancona where for about 10 years all 4 elements that made it up remained there waiting to be recovered. At the beginning of 2013, two elements of them were recovered and restored externally and then brought on 1 October to the vaults of Milan, where they were presented on 3 October under the vaults of Milano Centrale on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Pendolino, as well as the debut of the FS Foundation. After the presentation, the two elements were transferred to Cremona, where they still appear to be in a warehouse together with other historic rolling stock. On Monday 27 December 2021 the E656.023, the D345.1055 and 1 Vsz type rescue wagon marked 80 83 975 1 509-5 left Pistoia to reach Ancona, along the Bologna-Prato line and making the locomotive tour. at Bologna Centrale. Once arrived at its destination, the hookup procedures to ETR401 were carried out on the same day via the D345.1055, ready to leave the next day. The following morning at 8.10 he left the capital of the Marche region, after years of setting aside. On reaching track 3 in Senigallia, he gave priority to Intercity 604 for Milano Centrale and Regionale Veloce 3910 Ancona-Piacenza, restarting at a block distance from the latter. In Fano he stopped for another 20 minutes to give priority to FR 8810 Bari Centrale-Milano C.le. After having given priority to another Frecciarossa in Cesena, the train once arrived in Forlì had to stop for about an hour given the various passenger trains such as the Intercity 606, the Regionale Veloce 3914, the Frecciarossa 8814 and finally the freight train of tractors for Modena. Once it left, in Faenza it gave priority to other trains, thus leaving at the turn of 15 for Bologna Centrale. Once we reached platform 5, after a stop of not even 5 minutes, everything was forwarded to Bologna Ravone at the Fs Foundation depot where the ETR450.03 is already located. Now the convoy will be subject to complete restoration (place where this will take place still uncertain), with the rest of the 2 pieces still standing inside the Cremona warehouse. In this video you can see the convoy passing through the Rimini station, starting from the Forlì station, seeing the train in detail and the departure from the Faenza station and finally the departure from platform 5 of Bologna Centrale for the Ravone bundle.
