Selma van de Perre was 17 when World War II broke out. For years she hid her real identity whilst working for the Dutch Resistance. Her book, My Name Is Selma is available to buy here: amzn.to/31viXBf
'I am one of few Jewish survivors of World War Two, but one of many Jewish people to fight the Nazi regime. My story illustrates what happened to thousands of Jews and non-Jews alike... the sheer luck that saved some of us and the atrocities that led to the deaths of so many, as a tribute to all those who suffered and died.'
Now, at ninety-eight, Selma remains a force of nature. Full of hope and courage, this is her story in her own words.

I just finished your book Selma, your story is heartbreaking, hopeful, and you are a truly amazing brave woman! Everyone should read your story and never forget your sacrifices. My uncle an American, died on Normandy Beach in WW2, he was too young at 19 years old. I hope in the next life everyone can be whole and happy again!

This interview at 98! You are truly an inspiration to us all!! My father was shot while chasing Hitler on April 30th of ‘45. Fortunately he survived and my siblings and I were born. We are German-American but our Dad and his family recognized the terrible evil that was Nazi totalitarianism. Thank you for telling your courageous story. God bless you.

@@basedphantomlord4462 You are a joker. My father crawled for miles with a bullethole in his left thigh, was put up in the wrong ally camp and reported MIA for 3 months. He was in the 13th army division and met Patton. He went through Dachau just days before he was shot and described the smell as blood-curdling.

@@LastCommodore Hitler died in Berchtesgaden, not Berlin. My father was shot 140km away at the Isar River, having just gone through Dachau, on April 30th. Hitler killed himself that same day so they hadn't reached him yet. Dad was a machine gun squad sergeant in the 13th Armored, originally under Patton. Luckily for me, he crawled underneath the Nazis on the opposite bank and got back to an allied camp; record-keeping was not very good, so his parents received word he was MIA, only to find that he had been sent to a hospital in England. They got word after 3 months that it was a leg wound (left thigh) and so he would recover. .

This truly is one of the most heartbreaking accounts of the horrific circumstances which innocent people faced 💔 My dearest Selma, you’re an inspiration to humanity and I shall certainly read your novel 🕊

War is a terrible thing no matter which side you are on. The civilians always pay the price while the Instigators sit at the top reaping the riches and rewards. Often, the leaders go unpunished. Always ask the officials, who are calling for war, if their sons and daughters will actually serve on the battlefield. I can already tell you the answer.
