It's a rebuild, just need to accept it. At least it will not be as bad as th X Generation of the Penguins. Let's go Pens!

Rebuild requires you to trade your good players.. this is most definitely not a rebuild

@@terpoholicsloth9227 Exactly....4th line last year were complete stiffs. Dumping Smith and POJ (2 complete duds) was a must. Team is already better than last season.

With Beauvillier and Lizotte signed, along with Hayes, Eller, Puljujarvi and Acciari… all the young players appear to be blocked for a roster spot. So no chance for Poulin, Ponomarov, Puustinen, Broz, Koivunen, Gruden, etc. to win a spot out of camp. Surprised no one is asking about this.

Pusti is better than anyone they've signed the last few days....he'll make the team

Five of the bottom 6 is now Hayes, Eller, Beuavillier, Acciari and Lizotte… those guys are locks based on their contracts. The 6th spot is between Puustinen, Puljujarvi, Bemstrom, Ponomarov, Poulin, etc.

Ohhhhh Dubie. Good talker. Reilly wanted out and apparently made no bones about that.

Kind of funny but this move, more than any other, has finally made me realize we're rebuilding. A 2027 second and retaining 25% of contract, and no player to take the place of Reilly Smith. Yeah he had a bad year but still. Seems like Kyle is very focused on the future and not so much the present. Probably for the best but that's a little rough. And i'm not sure about this whole thing where Kyle signs everyone and their mother, to a 1- year deal, to see if any of them fit with the team. It's like a huge quantity over quality decision.

There’s still a lot of offseason and cap space left. The move that sends smith out doesn’t have to be the same move that brings in his replacement. The league doesn’t have to work in the way that you either rebuild or go all in and no in between. Some moves are for the future, some are for now. The bruins, for example, have been doing that for years. I think it’s just that lately most of the moves feel like future moves because Rutherford and hextall were so negligent with that aspect of moves. They were pedal to the metal always. And reckless in hextall’s case. I think Dubas realized that going forward you need to refill the cupboard at least a little. If this team is in a playoff spot at the deadline I’d be surprised if he refused to send out a first to load up like we’d hope.

@@zeusthedrumlord547 I'd agree with most of what you said except for having a lot of cap space left. We are bottom 10 in cap-space, its quite low. And like i said, i don't like Dubas' penchant for signing everyone and their mother to 1 year contracts, throwing things against a wall and hoping something sticks. I'm not a Dubas hater, but i think his analytics make him want to grab every player that is analytics tell him is worth it, based on cap-hit against projected production or whatever formula he has going on there.

@@TylerEL I didn’t check league wide but at the time I made that comment they had over 7 million which should be enough for a Reilly smith replacement and I wouldn’t be shocked if more was cleared up with either eller or rakell going out. But yeah I don’t disagree with anything you said either.

This guy Dubas is brutal. I feel bad for Sid, he's going to waste the last years of his career. For picks and prospects that he has shown no ability to turn into a team. He did the same in Toronto, with top 2 lines that was as good as any in the NHL and couldn't build a bottom 6, couldn't get bottom 4 Dmen and poorly assessed goalies. I have zero faith he will do better here in Pittsburgh....I don't know why this guy just got handed all the reigns as President when he has not shown to have the ability to do a good job as a GM

Dubas is definitely the wrong person to fix anything. He was nowhere near ready to be the GM in Toronto and really fucked that up over there.. Sid, Gino and Letang should jump ship and chase a final championship elsewhere.

@@DrOcelot667 I'm not arguing the Hextall part, but you will see with Dubas, he is as average a GM as hextall....for some reason he is treated like this gem of a diamond even though he does not have a resume to match that praise.

@@josephflores5821 Good to hear someone recognize Dubas. I live in Toronto, not a single person in media, former player, former exec, speak highly of dubas, all feel like he was over his head and in hindsight was not ready to be a GM and made way more bad moves than good moves.
