So, in 9th grade, I met a friend in Science class, and in that same class we also talked about the Flat Earth Society. So, my friend is just really interested in science, and I had this idea to try and make a fake cult and put it online to see how many people would actually believe in it. The idea then came from my friend telling me about a planet called Haumea, which is an egg-shaped dwarf-planet in the outer reaches of the solar system that has an icy shell. Unfortunately, I never really got to pursue making this cult, but here's the idea: Our belief: The dwarf-planet Haumea, which is a dwarf-planet on the (it basically says everything I just said about it's location and features)... actually contains thee embryo of a space chicken that we have dubbed "Greg", who may or may not be God, and we believe that Greg will bring us salvation. In addition to that, we had the sacred greeting, where you use your right arm at an acute angle, pound your chest twice, then stick that same arm up (keeping it in a fist) with a 90 degree angle and saying Haumeawe. We also had the sacred text, the Haumeawe, which... spoke for Greg or something, I don't know. In addition to that, in the more underdeveloped stages, we also had a religious hierarchy, with it just being Ooloonian, with the higher ranks adding more ools to it (ooloonian, oolooloonian, ooloolooloonian, etc). The religion is called Haumeism, Haumeawe brothers. In addition to that, I also decided to come up with my own conspiracy theory later on, but also never really got it out there. Basically, the conspiracy theory centered around the idea that Africa actually doesn't exist. So, the evidence here was that, A. how may people that you know have actually BEEN to Africa? Here's the thing, the evidence is totally stupid, but at the same time, the Flat Earth Society exists. So, here's some other stuff: all humans/life supposedly came from Africa, now that sounds pretty suspicious, right? In addition to that, all these companies trying to raise money for African kids, it must be staged, as the government is using it to get income. Why don't we hear from the African kids after donating, huh? On top of that, we could also say that people who say they are from Africa were actually hired/brainwashed by the government to say/believe they are from Africa. Flights to Africa could just be staged as flights to Southern Europe. Also, Egypt still exists, but the rest of Africa doesn't. Overall, it isn't super well developed, but I feel like it's a dumb enough idea to make jokes about. Also, how could Africa possibly work if every sixty seconds in Africa, a minute passes? That's just not right. Please spread the word. Thank you.

As a person who does a lot of research online I find there's a huuge bias toward popular media so that if something is very popular (or becomes popular by going viral) then yes, people are going to share it thousands of times and they're going to make backups and post discussions about it and whatnot. But if something is not VERY popular, so not even obscure, it's enough for it to be below a certain line of popularity, then nobody is going to preserve it in any way. Like, there are entire videogames that were released commercially for smartphone devices that are absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to find any info about, and they may even be something like licensed Pac-Man games officially released by Namco, or some game that had an official collaboration with an anime series or something, but the only proof of their existence is a single tweet by the developer going "Pac-Man Super Pellet War releases today!" And that's it. It doesn't get very popular, and nobody ever cares to even post a single screenshot, so they pull it from the store and it's basically like it never existed.
