I live in DFW, and there was a police chase happening off I-85 I watched live. They were driving on the wrong side of the road and at one point hopped into another car an accomplice was driving, shit was nuts.

Honestly same, growing up in Socal this is all very familiar news to me and knowing all the roads and freeways and either predicting where they'll go next or knowing they don't know the area at all by the choices they're making is a fun family time

Yeah my dad and I were watching a chase a while back and he explained to me that the reason they don’t try crazy maneuvers and often follow at a distance is cause the more pressure on the person getting chased, the greater the chance of them being reckless and potentially hurting or killing people in a crash. It’s a situation of risk vs reward. Usually they continue the chance but with a little distance until the driver gives up or more often, the car breaks down/ runs out of gas, unless the driver is super out of control in which case they try and apprehend them as quick as possible. They let this guy go for now cause he’s driving safely and they can be pretty confident he’s not going to end up hurting someone if they give up the chase. So I’m assuming they didn’t have suspicions of a DUI or anything like that. Plus after a certain point (assuming the initial crime wasn’t something really serious) it’s just wasting the officers time and causing there to be less officers available for other emergency calls

Yep. Why risk lives and resources when you can keep an eye on them from the skies? They're going to stop eventually, and then just send officers to where they stop.

Yeah I forget where I heard this, but I think it's very common that the police won't chase after you unless they suspect you've committed a felony. Obviously the cops can always lie about what they suspect happened but the point is, if you're getting into a chase, the police already know your license plate, so they probably already know your identity. You're probably not going to get a fake passport and move to Cambodia over a misdemeanor so they just file an arrest warrant and wait for you to eventually show up. Definitely not something worth risking lives over unless the person they're chasing is wanted for a violent crime or like... fentanyl trafficking lol

This is an urban myth. Pretty much everywhere they will continue the pursuit. They'll just peel off when state #2's people can fully takeover. And almost immediately you'll get extradited to whoever has the most severe charges for you.

A ton of vehicles being chased are either stolen, have stolen plates, or no plates at all. Very good chance the police would have no idea who the suspect is other than a vague visual description of whoever is inside the car.
