The best build would probably be putting half your points in damage, the other half in Umami? That's what I gathered at least, though perhaps there's an entirely different way and no-hitting does seem challenging.

umami is still a hell of a lot better, it's what i used to finally kill pagarus, sauce top with the sponge (so i gain 1 umami charge by using a umami charge,) with the royal wave. As well as riposting, to just fucking spam twist top to kill pagarus, umami is WAY better then atk, change my mind.

@dinonuggsmeal1141I understand why you would think unami is better, but in my opinion atk is leagues better with the right setup, for example I used 2 rusty nail + ( increased atk in exchange for less unami damage) , shark tooth + ( 40% charges attack damage), and the red solo cup (triples atk damage but lessens dodge roll) to steam roll most bosses in less than three attempts. And the pagarus pain is real, that bugger took 20 attempts to kill. (Edit: the bobbit fish adaptation is great for this build as it lets you shred enemies while they're stuck in its jaws for retaliation free damage)

@@nebulousshade1091 yeah, other than the mantis because it has an attack that makes him immortal for a short period, most boss fights were over in 1-3 charged attacks, so I would say atk is initially worse in early game, but can be much stronger in mid/late game.

I feel compelled to mention that boosting the attack is super useful, just not necessarily right away. To use completely arbitrary numbers, let's say at the start of the game with the rusty fork you're doing 5 damage. You put points into attack early hoping to storm through the game, and you're getting a 150% attack boost. Because that's a percentage boost, and you're doing 5 damage, that's only a boost of 2.5, let's say 2. That means with the 150% attack boost you're doing 7 damage. However, let's say you've gone through and upgraded your fork, and now your fork's base damage is 10. With that same 150% bonus to attack, you're now getting a boost of 5 damage, which means instead of doing 2 times the default damage, you're doing 3 times the default damage. Umami upgrades are easier to notice right away, but if you have few attack upgrades going in to the end game you're at a HUGE disadvantage.

isn't umami still better? i don't know how much damage the good umami one's do (for example the party hat one, or the twist top one) But i still feel like it's still a hell of a lot better, ESPECIALLY if you go top route on way of the hermit. if you can get the sponge, and are half decent at riposting, you can basically spam umami, as i said to somebody else, it's what i used to kill pagarus, by using the sponge with the sauce top every time i used the twist top, i was gaining 2 charges for using 1. paired with riposting, i was able to spam twist top on pagarus.

the game is quite hard. I think you might have misunderstood how parry work. the parry is when you time your "release" of the block button, not "press" the block button in time. you have to hold the block button, then release it at the correct timing, not wait for the attack to press the block button
