as a type 1 diabetic, i’m always worried if my blood sugar goes dangerously low people, especially cops, will just assume i’m drunk. that was so refreshing to hear the cop posed diabetes as a possibility makes me feel like if that does (god forbid) happen to me i’ll be a little bit safer and understood. EDIT- this comment caused a great deal of uproar in the comment section and what feels like a lot of accusations of lying about my condition. i didn’t volunteer every ounce of info about myself, and people are more nuanced than their youtube comments make them out to be.

I think it's safe to say that if you were that far gone and they did ask you wouldn't exactly be giving clear and concise instructions on what to do. It is scary to imagine your diabetes getting you in that state because that probably means you're living your last moments on earth. The police can't help. If they somehow figured it out and called an ambulance, it's pretty unlikely they could help. I guess it depends on how severe and how long one has been in that condition. But she was out cold for nearly ten minutes before they got her to open that door. Ten minutes of being unconscious from a blood sugar crash and what are the chances of someone figuring it out and figuring out the right dose of insulin for you? An incorrect dose can do more harm than help. You might wake up in a condition you would rather have never woken up from. And it is not limited to type 1 diabetes, not by a long shot. Type 2 is just as dangerous, and someone that's just medium hypoglycemic and doesn't really understand is in more danger than both.

I'm actually glad that the cop first checked if she was diabetic. Since a diabetic with dangerously low blood sugar looks a lot like a highly drunk person. Looking like they could barely stay awake, slurring their words, unsure where they are, who they are, etc.

For real! I'm a t1d and when my blood sugar was at my personal lowest (about 25 mg/dL or ~1.3 mmol/L?) Which is why diabetics shouldn't be allowed to drive. Too many incidents of them causing accidents or becoming stranded with children in the car because their sugar is too low. If you have an illness where if you miss your medicine or didn't time your snacks right while taking it, and the end result is extremely physical/cognitive impairment then you needn't ever be operating a motor vehicle. For everyone's saftey.

I mean if the symptoms of low blood sugar for a diabetic are similar to the symptoms of a drunk person, wouldn't a diabetic off their insulin be just as dangerous and irresponsible behind the wheel as a drunk driver? It's not the alcohol. It's the impairment that's the issue.

My daughter was taken from us by a drunk driver 8 years ago. She was just 24 years old. The driver actually mounted the pavement and hit her and another pedestrian. The other person survived, but with serious injuries. There is, as Moist said, no reason to ever drive drunk, especially these days. There should also be nothing even resembling leniency for drunk drivers, no matter how much or how little damage they cause.

I'm so sorry. When I was 10, my dad was in a drunk driving accident where his best friend died, and my dad was in a coma for months and barely survived. My sociopath aunt actually told me he wasn't going to make it and I had to live with that for months, so I can genuinely empathize. They never found out who was driving as they both were ejected, but my dad refused to ever drive again. He accepted responsibility and spent the most important years of my childhood in prison. I still can't imagine losing him that early. He ended up passing away from cancer when I was in my early 20s. I hope you've found healthy ways to process that all. It took me a long time to understand the ways all of that affected me negatively. Ways that I didn't realize at all. I sought out therapy for different reasons and that ended up helping a lot, so I genuinely recommend that. One of the best decisions of my life, honestly. This was back in 2005, we had just graduated high school and 4 months later he was out drinking with his girlfriend and a few friends, took them all home and thankfully he managed to get them all home safely but on his way back he lost controll and hit a tree so hard he snapped his neck. Drunk driving is stupid, I lost a good friend that day and yes it was his fault, I had his toxicology report pulled and no surprise to me he was way over the limit. In 2 years it will be 20 years ago since his death, I still miss him, wish he could of met my other best friends who are now my brothers. She's from here in Michigan, what makes things worse than losing her streaming career is she lost her license. In Michigan, if you refuse to take either a breathalizer, or a blood draw test, you immediately lose your drivers license. There's something similar here in Indiana. Basically when you sign for your license (in the terms that no one reads) you actually agree to always do a breathalyzer and/or blood alcohol testing at the request of an officer. So refusing the test can actually get you in some hot water. From what I've heard few officers here will actually use that against you unless you are way zonked like this girl is. They'll usually just take the DUI and suspend the license for a year or two. Now I have never had a DUI let alone been pulled over. But this is what I have heard from officers in my hometown and seen via the news and whatnot EDIT: This is known as Implied Consent Laws in Indiana

Couldn't agree more. My best friend's mom (my "2nd mom") was killed by a intoxicated driver. She was my best friend's only parent and it had been just the two of them for so long. It was so heartbreaking. She taught Special Education her entire adult life and was also a fluent ASL translator who helped all deaf students in the area (both in and outside of the school she taught at). Thanks to her, we had kids who were deaf able to play sports because she showed up to every practice and game to translate for them. I am glad to see you taking a hard stance against it. The worst case I experienced shows how it can go beyond that one bad decision. My husband's cousin was killed by a drunk driver on Christmas Eve several years ago. She had just turned 18. Her older sister was so devastated by the loss that she ended up taking her life a few weeks later. It turned out she was pregnant. The mother of the two girls (my husband's aunt) was so wrecked by all these losses that she also took her life. As far as I'm concerned, that drunk driver killed four.

I grew up in Alberta, it's the same thing here. People will brag about how they drive drunk all the time as if they think they're cool. If you express concern, they'll tell you "it's fine". I've lost friends to it as well. It's never the driver who dies, always the passengers.

I'm embarrassed to say I've had 2 DUIIs in my career as an alcoholic (sober since 3/2/11 and lucky not to have hurt anyone) and yeah, $2000 with 12 months probation is SUPER light! Most DUIIs cost about $3000-$5000 in fines alone, but are more like $10000 with classes, DUI impact panels, etc. Hopefully she gets the help she needs because alcoholism is one hell of an insidious disease. Edit: Thank you for all the likes and supportive comments, as well as congratulations to those who are battling their own demons and winning ❤

When i was i think 14 or 15 I once blacked out, and APPARENTLY opened the back door to someone's house, took off my pants, put them in the washing machine, went back outside, then went to the front of the house and started banging on the door saying i left my pants or something. No recollection of that whatsoever. I have some super jumbled moments of being in handcuffs, standing in the cell with just my boxers, and a moment of my mom driving me home. Lmao i stick to beer these days

Damn. Anyone who's had 3 o'clock to drink is highly unpredictable. Especially when controlling a highly responsive 2-ton murder wagon. The fact that she didn't kill anyone isn't grounds for a slap on the wrist, it's an absolute miracle, and she should still see time as if she did kill someone.
@g33xzi11a
@g33xzi11a Жыл бұрын
The law always makes distinctions between risk and outcome. That’s why there are so many attempt and conspiracy charges. Nobody who didn’t kill someone should serve the time of someone who did kill someone. That’s ridiculous and counterproductive. She should be forced into an evidence-based substance-abuse program, sbe required to sell all vehicles she owns, and have her license permanently revoked. The last thing shouldn’t be a big deal but unfortunately this country coerces people to own and drive cars because of the shameful quality of public transit in the US.

The diabetic aspect is pretty important actually. My dad is diabetic, and recently we had a scare where his blood sugar and blood pressure just dropped, and he literally passed out in the middle of a health check up for an infection on his foot. When he came too he was out of it, and not sure what was going on, didn't remember passing out, was slow to react to questions, and sometimes answered different questions, and had some trouble speaking... more fading out his words then slurring them, but I feel like that's more person dependent. Anyways, after fighting off the injection and some changes in his medication, he hasn't had a repeat so for those who are worried, he's doing fine.

Scimmed the vid so didn't see if they got her blood alcohol level.. but I've seen people act like this off a xanax or kpin and only a beer.. doesn't even take alot for some people. The way alcohol and benzos interact w each other causes the combination to really mess you up, often black out and remember next to nothing. Also turns you into a whole different nasty person alot of times.. I was hooked on benzos for years they're bad news.

She was in the nodding off stage, which is typically when a drug user is also at their "highest high" and about to go into a crash (typically starting with sleep). She was at absolutely the most dangerous point someone could be. I have seen people on only alcohol get to that point, but it takes A LOT of alcohol. I agree, without tox it's impossible to say for certain, but it seems she was probably on something else along with the alcohol. The most frightening thing is that had she hit someone, they likely would have died and she would have survived. Edit: For the people who are so quick to say I don't know what I'm talking about, please keep in mind that everyone's body reacts to alcohol, meth, opiates, benzo's, and hallucinogens differently. Trying to base everything on "your" experience is not factual, nor is it relevant. "Nodding off" literally means the person is just barely conscious, which is what this woman was at the beginning of the video, she literally fell asleep on the officers while they were tapping on her window. There is also a statistic about drivers under the influence surviving more often than the people they hit, attempt using Google before stating that is not a fact next time.
