It's not 'borderline' illegal, it actually _is_ illegal. Giveaways in the United States are regulated by the same laws that regulate _lotteries and gambling._ Making someone _lose_ when they would have _won_ is called 'game rigging' and it is _super_ illegal. The "McMillions" guy got _37 months in prison_ and owes millions of dollars in restitution.

@@Parth-Jain-04 thats one way to look at it. Another would be the COO leaving because the company was in deep shit and going to fail. Nobody here seems to comprehend how hard it is to run a tech business right now, you can’t buy ANYTHING, and if you’re forced to you’ll have to buy a component at, no joke, 1000x the cost it was a year ago. I’m certain these guys have been fucked from a whole lot more than “taxes” for probably over a year. Apparently more than just one incompetent act. Apparently the company was split between two offices across the country and one did actual customer builds with the COO managing it but that person left and instead of hiring someone new the CEO managed both. His prior experience was managing the division that solely build PCs for Twitch streamers. Unsurprisingly without a COO he mishandled taxes and got the company's business license revoked.

If anything having a small streamer incidentally win this would have been great for their PR. It builds goodwill, and more importantly, confidence in their company by giving out a multi-thousand dollar asset to a riskier venture. If it was me, I'd rig the contest in favor of smaller streamers to get the PR benefits. The guy who thought this up did a great job, and deserves a better job.

The giveaways were indeed designed for small streamers to win, you had to be an "Artesian Ambassador" to enter, which are in essence all small streamers. From a business perspective, the whole point of a giveaway/raffle like this isn’t for it to be immediately monetarily beneficial to you or for you to gain from that particular transaction. It’s purpose is to build goodwill with your customers. And it’s pretty obvious how important goodwill is considering how quickly a business can fall apart without it.

a good company doesn’t dissolve in a week due to losing some customer goodwill. Could you imagine amazon disappearing days after all of those people were killed in a tornado because they didn’t warn them? No, because its a massive company that does tons of business, and doesn’t have so much debt that a handful of missed purchases sinks the entire company. This is happening in record-breaking chip shortages and inflation - those certainly have a ton more to do with the company dissolving in a week then some tomfoolery by the CEO

There have been countless companies like this in the gaming/creator space for a decade now. But most of them have gotten away with screwing smaller creators overs. It's never talked about because they usually hold leverage and the bigger creators are treated so well that the positive voices are too loud. It usually takes years for bad practices to surface, but usually when it's too late or the company is gone. We got to see this one in real time and that's insane!

"Anyone can win" is the point of *every* giveaway (even the goddamn lottery). It's not who wins that gets someone to recognise your brand, it's the fact that the chance to win FREE STUFF gets the all-important word-of-mouth flowing. To be fair they did say it was a giveaway for their ambassadors. The person who won was an ambassador but didnt do anything within their means to actually work as one. Now, does that make it in the right for the company? No not really because no one was really aware of that I don't think. It honestly would have been avoided if the guy didn't come off so snarky. Most people are throwing vitriol because he seems like he's being an asshole. If this was all done behind closed doors with no one knowing anything, nothing would have happened. That probably does speak about the dude's ego though. At the same time, I don't think this one thing should mean the whole company should crumble and collapse entirely. However there's also a point to be made that it having caused that in the first place would deter other companies from doing the same thing. BUT, that could also possibly make it known to make sure instead to do this kind of thing behind closed doors, enabling the issue anyway. It's a really funky situation.

"I'm happy this company got what it deserved!" I'm devastated that 50+ lost their livelihoods because their CEO was allowed to just say literally whatever he wanted on a Livestream. It's unlikely the CEO will suffer a huge loss for this, where the ground workers may have lost everything.

I imagine the ceo will probably have a very difficult time in the future with any future company. "Oh you were the CEO of artisean builds, so you are the guy that destroyed his entire company in one week. Why we would be absolute fools to reject you, please work for us, I see no consequences in our future." It's more likely that the employees will be a lot better off since they all did their jobs well. It's not their fault the company died, after all they provided quality products that people did like.

Well, he very publicly and with visual recordings broke the law in his and the contest winner's state, and some of his employees as mods in the channel were egging him on with the "reroll" cheers by their own admission in the now-deleted apology tweets. Many people are sadly unemployed, some of them (not just the CEO) did shit that logically would get people fired anywhere else

Yeah I'm surprised too about this. Cuz usually when companies does shitty things there's always that core fanbase that will not leave no matter how much they treat their fanbase/customers like garbage. Most of the time there's a big enough chunk of apologists in the fanbase that the company can continue to have bullshit practices and get away with it each time. So I'm glad that for once enough people just instantly boycotted them that they couldn't even continue operation. This is first time I have seen something like this. I'm proud that the fanbase realized the power that they have as paying customers/supporters and did a group effort to shut this bullshit down. Good job!
@jmal
@jmal 2 жыл бұрын
@@zebnemma I think it also depends on company longevity and size. A company as large as, say, Activision Blizzard, would still have a loyal fanbase despite all the controversy they generated because, in addition to their aforementioned size, they've been in the industry for a long time and have garnered a nigh-ironclad, mostly positive reputation. I don't know enough about Artesian Builds' history, but something tells me they're a small player compared to competing brands like Falcon Northwest, NXZT, or Digital Storm; and the thing that sets them apart is their whole giveaway and live streaming shtick. When they're that small and that young of a company, they can't afford any PR disasters like what their CEO did because their core customer base hasn't connected with them long enough for them to forgive any wrongdoing.

I'm a now former Mod and Ambassador of Artesian builds, they removed my mod because I backed KiaPiaa and the 2 others poor streamers that got done dirty, I then terminated my contract. I'm actually embarrassed to say I own a PC from them. Then the 3 attempted apologizes from the CEO were laughable. Also the company's FTB has been Forfeited according to records discovered by another person on Twitter. I spent 20 months with the company as a Ambassador and was mod for over a year. I was one of the first 50 followers on their Twitch, nights where the CEO Noah was streaming with no viewers except me. I kept him company so he wasn't alone. I feel like I've wasted over a year of my life dealing with them. Sorry for the rant, just wanted to give my input from someone who's watched them grown from nothing to something.

The thing I really love about charlie is his directness and commitment towards truth, of course there are many of his classic one liners and sarcasm sprinkled all the way through as usual but if you read between the lines you'll see that there are people and companies such as this one that he has supported for years but instead of trying to defend their fuck ups, he will see things for what they are no matter how committed he has been to them in the past. This is one of the many reasons that keeps me coming back to his vids :)
