As someone who works at McDonald's, anything that goes against the monotonous and repetitive work is a godsend. This guy coming in and being the most oblivious bloke was probably the most interesting thing to happen during their shift, especially since it looks nowhere near as busy as McDonald's should be during a rush. Guarantee as soon as he left, those people were making fun of him. Even the managers.

I've been working for a year. And I've only had one good customer experience I was mopping the lobby, and was about to he done when a lady said her friend spilled her drink on the table. She told me how she was blind in one eye and mostly blind in the other, and we had a lovely chat about how their days were. They kept saying sorry and stuff but I honestly didn't care because I **love** cleaning ngl. They were so sweet and so bubbily. Even tho we're not allowed to take tips, they both offered me a fiver. Things I actually learned from my three years of working at McDonald's: -The customers are dumb and entitled but they determine if you keep your job so play nice. -If a customer yells at you it's important to stay calm so you don't look like the bad guy. -Customers can't video tape you without permission from the owners of the store if it's a privately owned chain. -The food is actually really gross and unsafe but not everyone who comes in there has money/options to eat healthier. -It's the only place where a b*tch gonna yell at you cause the ice creams went up 10 cents and then she buzzes away in her Mercades. -It's important to find out who you work with best and try to match schedules. -Don't look at the clock, set an alarm for your break. Shift goes faster that way. -Some managers are asses. Work around their schedules or suffer, sorry. -If you're not in high school, work in the middle of the day when all the teens are at school. Some people just want to cause chaos at work instead of work. -Not all managers are mature enough to be managers -I really actually did learn some social confidence tbh -You will have favorite customers and least favorite customers -Accept tips if you're offered tips. Don't let anyone know. -If there's nothing to do you can always clean something to keep busy. Bosses like that too. -If you want a raise you need to ask for one bc they won't even think about you until you ask. -The walk in freezer is a good place to calm down from panic attacks -If a customer is mean, just deal with it -If a customer is racist or targeting someone because of how they look, then you need to say something. Your team needs to be a team. If someone bullies an employee or a manager bc of their color, then say something. -The only way to survive and not hate work so much is to not fear getting fired. -There will be scary people that work there, that's the way it is. They hire everyone. -Lastly, for some people, they do consider this their career and their line of work. There is no job that comes after this. Be kind. Be considerate. Don't offend them if this is what they want or plan to do forever. It's not always a 'starter' job.

Someone who does this sort of thing right is Conan O’Brien. He’s not patronizing to the people he’s with, super charismatic, and genuinely has fun with it. He does joke at the person’s expense, but it’s never in bad faith. He does it in a way that includes the person he’s with, in on the joke. And his humor is so outlandish, that it’s hard to look at the interaction like a serious one.

I worked at McDonald’s when I was 16, I remember one time I got screamed at, not yelled at, screamed at, for using the wrong temperature for mop water by some lady who just became a manager. There was one customer who wanted a coffee, and she asked what was in the freezer (it was some frozen coffee drink) and I told her, and asked if she wanted one. She went “NO, I JUST WANT A COFFEE, HOW HARD IS THAT TO UNDERSTAND??” Happy people do not work there, and they certainly don’t get food from there. If you want to work at a food place, there’s better options. Stay away from McDonald’s.
