Little over ten years after closure of the Woodhead route, Penistone Station lay in a state of decay and a shadow of its former self. The station buidings had all but been demolished and the rubble strewn across the former trackbed, created a sorry sight. 'Huddersfield Junction' signalbox was still in use and controlled the lines in and around the station area, though as can be seen, the building had certainly seen better days. The box finally closed in 1998 with control being passed over to Barnsley.
This video captured here in early 1991 show scenes of a once-busy and thriving railway location laying testimony to what it once was.
