This was the very first reel I ever worked on. I was 12 years old and had taken off one part too many. Springs went a-poppin’ . It took me six hours to figure out how to put it back together, but I was fearless after that.

Heyyyyy Dennis! Is that everyday WD 40 or have you found a "high test" formula please? In your opinion.... the solid metal washers in the drag stack, how do we know if the drag washers have worn them down and/or thinned them out please?? Thanks Kindly!!

if you are talking about cutting grease and loosening parts, any penetrating oil will do

Yes - just garden variety penetrating oil. Nothing special. You can tell the drags are worn by examining them - if aren't any ridges on the washer mesh (if they have that style) then then need to be replaced. If the washers are brittle or cracked. If the star adjuster is rubbing on the side place housing and finally, if the drag is not holding, those are signs that they need to be replaced - Dennis

You cannot change this reel from left to right hand drive

Yes they do. I do not recommend buying the Chinese made ones. I have had several that had severely worn or broken bridge shafts and it appears that this is more than an isolated issue - Dennis
