@@losteezy you are both correct and incorrect in the same breath. it is nothing to do with him being white, it is everything to do with him being attractive. long lashes, well-shaped jaw structure, deep eyes, and in good shape. such is the case with many other POC actors who also get plentiful attention. as the other guy here said, idris elba and will smith, but also Rami Malek from Mr Robot, Michael Even Behling (whoops got the name wrong, edited) from All American, Algee Smith from Euphoria, to name a few... You make it sound like being attractive is rarer for POC, which frankly is a lot more insulting than it is progressive. very much a two steps forward after one step back, type mentality. not that attractiveness is everything - but it is just as possible for POC as it is white people alike, I at least like to think so, perhaps too naive of me.

White skin is also viewed as innocent, which can be seen in people's reaction to Amandla Stenberg being casted as Rue in the Hunger Games (many people didn't like the fact that she was a black girl because they do not associate blackness with innocence). I, myself, am very light skinned compared to my cousins. We are all Hispanic, but I am largely given the benefit of the doubt based on a first look because of my skin while my cousins are seen as "hoodlums" right off the bat. It's not always a conscious thing, but people do make this distinction. A black man (even idris elba) in Joe's place would have been viewed as more aggressive than his white counterparts by many, and so, less forgivable or desirable. I think it's important to remember that there are a lot of hidden and virulent racists out in the world, so it is a bit naive to think it wouldn't make a difference.
