For those that are interested, the song used on this is Professor (Instrumental Version), by Jincheng Zhang.

I worked for the social security administration office on Farragut avenue in Bristol from December 1978 to April 2001. I spent a lot of my lunch hours at the Bristol station. I never brought a camera with me which is a shame because I got to see a few e33s and e44s in Conrail blue.

1:40 is the SCL "Champion" with it's Budget Room Coach behind the baggage car and twin Unit Dining car - a solid Florida train.

Those GG1's went from PRR to Penn Central to either Amtrak or conrail.

Why is it that passenger cars in the PRR never seem to match?
@EpicThe1124 жыл бұрын
Let me guess the early days of Amtrak to which you have a Penn Central locomotive coupled to an Amtrak train
@pennymcknight13463 жыл бұрын
Actually penn central had their own separate passenger service for a time

If the video was made after May 1, 1971 the intercity passenger trains would be Amtrak. Great video, Bristol was one of my favorite train watching spots.

Still marvel at the GG-1. Designed by the PRR, design "softened" by Raymond Leowy, built in the PRR shops, probably would still be running with upgrades to today. None of AMTRAK's electric locomotives comes even close. And to add insult to injury, AMTRAK's electric locomotives are products of foreign design efforts.
@KevinCNYC19915 жыл бұрын
The E60 wasn't a product of foreign design, it was based off of contemporary locomotives GE built at the time.

It's highly unlikely that any GG1s would still be operating today. The electrical system contains high levels of both asbestos and PCBs, which is why no organization has attempted to restore a preserved unit to operating condition.
@DaimosZ4 жыл бұрын
@@DT-dm8vx plus if they attempted to make a new build the whole loco would have to be redesigned from the ground up since it'd need new safety cabs thus defeating any point of bringing it back to life.

@@DaimosZ By safety cabs, do you mean a type similar to what is designed into modern road diesels ? Wasn't the design of the GG1 and the modified P5 done because it created cabs that were not right in the face of danger ?
@DaimosZ4 жыл бұрын
@@GG1man a modern type yes. The type of safety cabs that the GG1's were built with back then would be considered unsave by todays safety standards
