One's religion cannot be judged by another person's experiences. Religion should be a life experience, ever changing and growing just as the human body changes and grows. It is morally wrong to expect others to believe in something, or in the case of atheists not to believe in something, based on one's personal life experiences. Every person is entitled to live however they choose in their pursuit of happiness as long as it does not interfere with the happiness of others. If someone believes in a god and are happy, great. If someone does not believe in a god and are happy, great. But, just because someone does not believe the same thing as you does not give you the right to belittle or degrade them. Which is why I refuse to debate religion with anyone.

God is far more scientific than we give him credit for as the action of our universe even existing requires 3 fundamental truths. Light has to exist, time has to exist and physics has to exist and they all had to come into existence at exactly the same point in time. They cannot exist independently not even light as we know light travels an action completely dependent upon the basic laws of motion and time itself. Time cannot exist if people cannot move or see to observe it making physics reliant upon both time and light. Light and physics cannot exist if time ever stands still. This should be enough to prove the existence of God as to blink those 3 things into existence required a power we cannot even begin comprehend. Never let stupid people in the church ever turn you from an idea God exists when science itself. Particularly quantum physics and classical physics forces us to understand that without those 3 things we would not be here and proves his existence. This goes beyond the basic understanding of the big bang and even the atomic level of science and resides in a sub atomic level of reality. If anyone can come up with a compelling reason why those 3 things can exist independently which they can't because it requires an action outside of our concept of reality (God like level). I cannot for the life of me think of a single solitary being other than God who could perform such an outrageous task. Hell is not reserved for Atheists. It is reserved for those who attempt to turn people from God through fear......aka....organized religion. Atheists deny to be governed by evil men and they have taken the largest spiritual leap as they understand that evil deeds are wrong and the church has many evil deeds under its belt. God does not live in the church. He was simply never there from the moment they chose to use their free will to crucify the human embodiment of God himself and not listen to what he had to say. Atheists are 5 times more likely to feel the love of God before anyone who adheres to the ideology of man. I cannot say enough bad things about the church itself as this belief is responsible for so much evil. Organized religion is based completely in the idea God is an evil being. God is incapable of being evil so by default organized religion is literally founded in Satanic ideology aka EVIL SHIT. Fear mongering is an evil deed and God himself said he does not abide the wicked and ignores them. The bible is simply the misinterpretation of what God said. Free will (God's greatest gift to mankind) is why he cannot stop evil things from happening as evil is simply a byproduct of free will. To deny us free will is indentured servitude which is the very idea of slavery. God said how much he hated that shit. If you have ever felt sad and lost and asked the question why do we treat each other the way we do? Then you asked exactly the same question that makes God feel the same way. Think about the sense of loss and depression and sadness of a loved one and then realize God feels that 9 billion times as much. This gives just an absolute sense of sadness for mankind as you can see most are simply oblivious to it. You govern your relationship with God not human beings and they are most certainly wrong when they attempt to do it. All anyone ever has to do is ask for him to help them understand. I assure you he will. We must remove all human influence (ignore what others say) to be able to ask him anything. I am simply suggesting all of this and no I do not pretend to know 100% the mind of God because I realized it presented me with way too many paradoxes because our reality is fixed because we make it that way. With the advent of free will God gave us a power we don't even understand as we have the ability to remove him completely or to get to know him. The bible is probably true but is largely misinterpreted to fit into the meaning of mankind's idea of societal structures and governmental control. You have to ask yourself if what people told you about God makes him seem like a socialist, fascist dictator in favor of slavery then it is proof it is misinterpreted and needs a big ass update to grow with everyone. It is a good book to get you started down the road and understand Gods existence but was only ever to start up an inquisition into how God fits into our reality. It was never meant to dictate. The simple action of saying someone will go to hell if they do not heed God's word is an action that requires the removal of free will, a gift God said was his greatest gift above all others. It is basically calling God the biggest liar of all so by default it makes organized religion inherently wrong and comprised of evil and wicked people. They could change it but most refuse thinking God will look down on them when he is probably saying "No you morons, you missed the point entirely". The biggest face palm in history was performed by God. Who knows if that face palm resulted in the Big Bang????It could have.

To be honest I can't agree. Their questions were very prejudicial and rude. To assume that someone suffered psychological harm during childhood just because they're an atheist... yikes. Especially when the data shows the opposite... religious solace is not taken up by many people in countries with high metrics for happiness and contentness. Probably because if you're content with your life today, you are less incentivised to seek some hypothetical afterlife in the hereafter.) And then to try an monopolise the idea of love as though Christianity has intellectual property on the universal emotion of love... is just ignorance and shows a lack of empathy because he can't step out of the religious worldview and realise that Penn doesn't attribute every good human quality to some supernatural being.

love of science is not restricted to atheists. You are basically stating the old fallacy that goodness (does good = love?) and morality cannot exist outside of christianity (or insert own brand of religion here) and that has been debunked many years ago. Basic morality is the glue that holds us as social animals together, and we are stronger in groups.
@xtiancolquhoun7410
@xtiancolquhoun7410 6 жыл бұрын
Al Heeley I never said that science is restricted to atheist but science is what atheist rely on heavily to prove things, such as the big bang or that zebras are related to horses. The main point I am bringing up is that under science love is merely just a chemical reaction in the brain. Secondly you bring up that goodness and morality can exist without an authoritative standard like god, well you still haven't brung up any studies that prove that under naturalism these things are objectively right to care about others and not to harm. The third thing you raised is that "basic morality" is good for us because we are social animal's and that we are stronger in groups, but from what I see from animal's that are in groups infact our closest related animal cousin the chimpanzee, have been known in the wild to kill other chimps in their own group and also kill other chimps to eat or just for territory, so would you say that those actions are objectively wrong? If not and these are neutral acts then under your worldview such thing's as war and murder to benefit a side or country are indeed completely neutral aswell. Because if we are merely sophisticated animal's then nothing is wrong with killing someone, chimps kill other chimps all the time aswell but is that objectively wrong? And if so prove it.

I have a relative and her husband and their children have Christianity at the centre of the very life. One Christmas I asked her if any of her children believed in Santa Claus, and she said she had never encouraged it at all. She had been so bitterly disappointed, and felt lied to, as a child herself when she finally discovered their was no such thing, and she wanted to spare her own children that disappointment. I would never say anything that would have upset her, but I thought it ironic that she was still teaching them about an invisible, supernatural father figure, who watches you all the time to see if you have been good or bad, and will only reward those, in his judgement, who have been good. I guess she never actually grew up, and just adopted another comforting fable for her adulthood.

@brad renfroe Oh yeah the great sacrifice Jesus supposedly made where he died for our sins and then came back to life days later, what a sacrifice. Btw according to the bible god made those rules not us. But then again he's such a good judge and so righteous he had to wipe out the majority of life on earth except for one family and some animals, sounds to me like he's the one that continually screwed things up and then punished us for it. Good thing it's just made up though. C'mon though god through some divine miracle, aka rape, impregnates a human woman who births his son, he then let's his so called son sacrifice himself for our sins but then let's him come back later and that was what it took for us to be saved as long as we bend the knee and love and worship him. Sounds like a right load of nonsense to me. Also based on what you said "Jesus died on the cross for us to pay for the sins of the world with His life so that anyone who accepts Him as savior can be found innocent in the eyes of God and be able to see heaven one day" that means you could be the worst kind of person on earth but as long as you accept him as your savior you have a golden ticket, that's some good old fashioned morality right there, but that take differs depending on which Christian you talk to since not even Christians themselves can agree on anything most of the time.

How are atheists not bias?? You formed an opinion, human behavior dictates once you form an opinion you are always going to be bias towards your opinion. So as I keep saying Atheist are no different than people who believe in God, they also will fail to see the hypocrisy in their statements and what they believe. They even say it as if they know it is a fact God does not exist, making a statement of knowing means you know for a fact. But they don't. The honest answer is made by Agnostic people. Thats an honest "I don't know". They make no claim that they know. Thats admirable. Atheism is stupid because it is most certainly an assertion God doesn't exist and assertions require explanation (even in court). Unwilling to do that then its a stupid belief made for a stupid reason. Here I'll even prove it. Atheist: There is no God. Theist: What gave you that idea? Atheist: I don't have to prove anything. then comes the SJW storm off. Thats about how that goes every time. Its so predictable that you can set a goddamn clock to it. You have your preachers peddling their books, you just call them lectures. They literally try to convince you to be an atheist because it affects their bottom line. WTF. That is literally the same shit. They even claim you will reach a level of understanding greater than those around you.......oh you mean they reach righteousness???? Yep its the same shit, its a linear form of organized religion, you people even incorporate a villain, you call them "Theist's" (that your devil) and basically chastise your own specie. But sure you people are smarter........OK if blindly following shit without knowing why you are following it and then being a dick to people who oppose it then sure you're smarter. Thinking you are in some kind of exclusive club then yeah you traded one system for exactly the same system and just too dim witted to realize thats what you did. Cue all the atheist's who are about to be butt hurt after reading this. Won't make it any less true.

"God is love" Is that before or after he summoned 2 bears to maul 42 children in a village for saying a guy was bald? "Is there anything that happened in your childhood that made you an atheist?" Translation: "I can't seem to find a door or window through which to sneak through and lovingly beat you over the head with my own personal understanding of God." Essentially implying that it must be some sort of trauma that would cause one to be an atheist, rather than one's own calm, rational thought processes.

Why do so many religious types not accept that you don’t need a God to feel love, be in awe of the universe, humbled by a small baby, moved by the beauty of a flower or the magnificence of a mountain or the wonders of the deep sea. I don’t tell believers what they’re thinking and I object to them telling atheists what we’re “really” thinking.

So many different religions and versions of god. These are faith-based beliefs and they are at odds with one another. Faith cannot be a foundation of knowledge. It is a foundation of belief. By definition, religious faith must be an unsupported basis of belief otherwise it would not require faith to believe it. We're all atheists. Some of us just go one god further. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If you had evidence, you wouldn't need faith. Don't pretend to know things you don't know.

+buddybleau Always reminds me of George Carlin's bit on God. "Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money!" Religion is the biggest con mankind has ever pulled. And Christianity actually goes against what Jesus supposedly taught. The man was anti-religion. And what happens? People build a religion around him. It's like they don't get the central message of just "be excellent to each other". And strangely enough Penn is a better representation of that than these charlatans in their $1000 suits, Rolex watches and expensive cars.

@@danielcooper1294 You say you don't want to start something but you immediately call Penn an antitheist. You want to point to me where he's said that he's against theism or theists? The term is atheist and it's somebody that doesn't believe that God exists. That's all the baggage you can unpack from that word. As to the next part, it's really stupid unless the judge in this case decides to send the son to the basement where he'll be tortured every second of every day for the rest of his life just because he, as you put it, had fallen short of the standard for innocence. Now dan you tell me of any crime so heinous that torture for the rest of your life is an acceptable punishment? Remember, we're using your terms here. And then the same judge will condemn somebody else to the basement torture room simply because they don't believe the judge has any real power. That's their only crime. They're a good person who has never done anything bad but just for that they'll be tortured for the rest of their lives. Is that fair? Of course not. So how can it be fair for God to send somebody to hell for the simple act of non-belief? I don't believe in God. I've never killed anybody. I've never stolen from anybody. I've never raped anybody or committed a crime so foul as to be charged with anything. And yet your God will send me to hell simply because I don't believe he exists. And you wonder why atheists just shake their head in wonder in how Christians can actually believe this crap.

@@danielcooper1294 "Firstly, I never claimed to not understand" - But you don't understand. It's evident in your words and your choice to use "antitheist" instead of "atheist". Penn himself has said on one of his Penn Speaks bits that he expected and actually welcomed people talking to him about God not because he believed in such a being but because *they* did and *they* were doing it out of their desire for him not to go to hell. It didn't matter if he's a non-believer. They're believers and they're the ones that are concerned with his afterlife. And in that he feels they're acting in a way that is in line with their beliefs. How is that being an antitheist who is one who is against God or against the idea of God? In fact here's a video of him mentioning this. It's already cued to the right point: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNOUaZZp2NO1lGw.html The man is not an antitheist. He's an atheist. What I object to is your cavalier use of term which carries baggage. No, he'll do so because I don't believe. Here's the thing I searched for God when I was younger. I grew up an atheist but I never read the bible and in my late teens figured I really ought to give it a try. So I read it cover to cover with the intention of letting it take me wherever it would. If the words "reached me" I'd go with that. But I get to the end and all I could think about was how much of a slog the OT was and how there were so many contradictions in it where one story contradicted another. I then went out and spoke to priests and pastors and padres and whomever I could get a couple minutes with to try to understand what was going on. And they all told me the same thing. I needed to pray and invite him into my life. That the words didn't matter so much as the sentiment behind it. So that night I did. I got on my knees, made myself as humble as I could and I just prayed. I said all the words I could think of and invited him into my life. And nothing happened. There was no great feeling of warmth, no light in my heart, no burning bush, no image of Buddy Christ giving me the thumbs up. Noting had changed. For the next week I was waiting for something to happen. Maybe see a miracle. Or hear a thunder on a clear day. Or I don't know but life just went on as it normally did. Now God knows my mind right? God is able to peer into my heart and he knows that I require evidence to believe in something. I can't just believe in something that doesn't have evidence. Personally I think it's impossible for anybody to do so without fooling themselves into doing so. I can only gather two things from that. Either God doesn't exist which would make the most sense. Or he doesn't want to know me.

It wasn't a conscious decision or anything, it (religious practice) just wasn't a priority for me for awhile and one day I just started thinking about it and what I believed and after going back and forth for several weeks of deep thought, I came home one day and told my wife, "I don't believe in God anymore.' and she said, "that's okay sweetie, you're still a good person" And after several years of not believing I became aware that the only reason I believed in god in the first place was because someone, some person told me about it. Now I figured that if God was what everyone says he is, all powerful, wonderful, the creator of all things, then he should have been the one to introduce himself...because frankly, people get it wrong so many times. It shouldn't have required another person to turn me on to it.

Do you have any idea how offensive, how condescending and discounting it is, to imply that someones choice to take a stance of non-belief in religion is simply the result of some sort of childhood event? That it's impossible to conceive of someone just reaching that conclusion from careful focused internal thought? Am I really so worthless as a human, that it is impossible to accept validity from my thoughts if they differ from your own, regardless of how much energy and focus I have put in over my life? Why does life HAVE to be seen as empty, as devoid of value, if devoid of an all-powerful deity? When you hear people philosophize on something like the reason Earthly immortality is a bad idea, is that death is what gives life value. The fact that things end is why things matter while they are still happening. With this in mind, how is it not then seen that a life without any form of infinite, a life that comes to an abrupt and complete end with nothing after, no "reward" for a job well done no pat on the back or being told "you done good, son" makes life even more valuable? How is it not seen, accepted, understood, that if we really are indeed given nothing but 60-90 years on this planet and then it's all over forever, that this chunk of time is in fact more precious than if the "end" of it simply means spending several thousand-thousand trillion years in some sort of abstract paradise being congratulated for your efforts after?

Though I agree with you and am an atheist, you're exaggerating a bit by playing a victim. People who get offended all the time are really annoying.
@shunyaku7759
@shunyaku7759 7 жыл бұрын
It's not that such things make me feel victimized, and I want nothing less than to be constantly offended, but the idea that I'm simply who I am, how I am, because something made me sad, the idea that if I had a better more sparkly love-filled childhood that means that I would believe Santa Clause was real, just pisses me off. This idea that I chose to not accept a story with so many holes it couldn't catch a whale shark because I blame a god or lack thereof for my less than great parts of life is an extremely discounting and rude idea, it invalidates me and provides a barrier to hide behind preventing any argument I could make from holding any weight with those hearing it. Especially since it's not MY life that makes me take this stance. When I have someone tell me that god is all-loving and all-powerful, that he wants only the best for all, it's not my issues that I think of. It's the children starving to death right now in other nations and even our own in places supposedly most touched by this "god". It's the people who act with the intent to harm others, sometimes BECAUSE they think their god wants it. The people who cheer when there is death, or disasters. The people who say god is all-good, and made all things, and then blames this straw-man idea of a devil for things that do not jive with their first claim. The idea that I have to be a victim to be against these ideas, that I have to feel like I'm being bullied at school, is just another insult. I have the right to argue my point, and to say what I need to to be clear, and frankly, this idea that I somehow need to feel like I'm being attacked to have reason to speak up is bullshit.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I believe that all religions are nothing but myths and that people are relating to them because they're a part of their identity rather than actually thinking about what it means to believe in their religion. Basically, I'm on your side, and for that reason think that all religions should be debated. It's just the approach you're using, which makes it sound like you're crying about it (which I'm not saying you ARE - it just comes off as that), that I complained about. I never said that you had to be a victim to be against the ideas or anything like that. Just beware not to sound like a drama queen, for the simple reason of it sounding annoying.
@shunyaku7759

If the goal in speaking to people is to not annoy them, you have entered into a realm of superficial posturing wherein you pretend to capitulate to their intents and opinions, rather than trying to get your point across. If someone intends to confront me, alleging that my choice in lack of faith is because something bad happened to me in my past, I reserve the right to get offended and respond as disrespectfully as I feel they met me. I will not hold back my thoughts and emotions because someone might not approve. I will not stay on a neutral plane so as to "not stoop to their level". I will not pretend they did not offend me, and I will not pretend they have no right to be offended. That is disingenuous, rude, and condescending. I would rather annoy someone, than let them think I see them, fellow humans, as my lesser, regardless of their chosen ideologies.

How can anyone say that god is a god of love? Ignoring the fact that god is absent from our lives in every single way leaving us to fend for ourselves even during the most demanding hardships, expecting praise for all the good things right down to the food we eat while refusing to accept responsibility for any evil in the world. Knowing well before hand that a baby will be born with down syndrome and become a burden to its parents for life, that another one will die from sids, knowing others will be molested by a paedophile scarring them for life leading to a ruined life. I could go on and on but seriously think about it, if there is a god out there this being does not love us does not want us to know it and above that does not deserve to be worshipped.

I would think finding evidence that this Jesus fella is the "Christ" would be more important. Because otherwise you can be duped into believing a false religion. Likewise, if you were raised to pray to Allah, it would be more important to try to verify the accuracy of Islam, before you waste your life praying to a deity that doesn't exist.

Not to say that I know Penn. I do not at all. But after their Penn and Teller Magic show in Vegas Penn and Teller spend a generous time with anyone in the audience outside who wants to speak with them (Teller speaks a lot!). You get to see the man that Penn projects and it is awesome. They are both truly down to earth which I attribute to their success. You don't have to believe in a deity to be a kind-hearted and loving person. Penn and Teller are prime examples of that. We need more people in the world like them. I believe in God just not in any institution of any and all organized religions in the multiverse.

I've been atheist since birth. Idk why but church and religion just never convinced me. I tried! I wanted to be like my friends. I spent a lot of time and thought as a teenager and adult experiencing several religions, churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, etc. and investigating spiritual texts. So I'm not at all injured by an experience. The indoctrination just never took. I've always been curious how common that is for others.

Living in England there was no real community pressure to be religious, and while my mother is Christian she's more of a non-practicing Christian so there was no family pressure either, and it was that freedom to choose combined with a rational mind that didn't lead me to become an atheist, but to not lead me to become a theist.

That is always the question from believers who question those of us who are atheists "Did something occur that caused you to rebel/turn against God', and the answer is simply, no. Us atheists, we grew up and at one moment we understood that there was really is nothing there, and never was to begin with.

The stand out comment for me was that "you can't have love without God" statement. Which is the basis for why I am atheist as I do not believe that is true. Love does not come from God, without God there is still love, happiness and good morales. The difference is within the person. Now maybe God could be used as a catalyst for any "bad" person who needs saving, and if a belief in God could help then at least there you have religion serving a noble purpose. But for those of us who already know love and happiness, God is not necessary. Maybe we can start asking believers "Why do you believe in God? Were you hurt as a child? Were you abused? What happened in you're life to make you need God?"

Also it's very sad that believers think all Atheists are lost, broken or had to have something tragic to us because we don't believe or "we are angry at god" we can't be angry at something that doesn't exist or we don't believe in.

God is love. Love is blind. Ray Charles was blind. Ray Charles dead. So god no longer exist. Checkmate You see saying something really stupid proves nothing. Even when I follow it with checkmate. When one person hears an invisible man talking he institutionalized When 100 people here invisible man talking they call it a cult. When I thousand people here in invisible man talking they call it religion. Then they get to condemn you because you don’t hear the invisible man talking. Then they will burn you at the stake, throw stones at you until you are dead, or worse yet try to force you to become part of their invisible man murder circle.

How does one make the logical leap from the thought that "experiencing and giving love is "PROOF" that one has "god" without the ability to show that the two "Love and god" are at least correlational, let alone a cause and effect pair?

The thing that Penn does so well is profess his beliefs in a manner that does not challenge the ability for another to hold their own. He doesn't require a gift or a punishment for aligning with him, or against him. Thats a much more real version of "love" than some promise of eternal life or damnation if you agree or disagree with some interdimensional beings authority.
