It's not a "philosophical question", its a very basic question and the answer doesnt reveal much. The Rabbi is being incredibly bias and lacking in historical awareness in his question. Ill tell you the big secret, Islam is a much younger religion than Christianity and Judaism, therefore it will take a while before it begins to rationalise itself or fade, as Christianity in Europe did when society eventually became more secular + progressive etc. The only difference being that when Christianity was going through its violent phase - the rest of the world was not enlightened and progressive, so therefore it is criticised in retrospect but has evolved along with the more liberal and progressive ideas of the times.
