In this video I do a quick comparison on two classic Penn reels. The Penn Peerless no. 9 and the Penn Mag 10. A in depth look at these two model reels and exploring the similarities and differences between them. Watch in HD!

Thanks for mentioning the difference in retrieve. The moniker "Mag 10" describes more than the magnet. It is also a reference to the "magnam" gear you referred to, yielding the faster retrieve. The main reason that higher speed retrieval is desireable is to be able to hopefully keep up tension on a charging or surfacing fish - typical of salmon. I have used both of these models for jigging salmon off the bottom, as well as for trolling with a downrigger. Great all-around tools without a lot of bulkiness.

Hi Tony, I am a spinning-reel fan but wanted to get into bait casting reel and got a few Penn Mag 10 and 210 reels in super good condition. Do you know where I could find the original Manuals for these two reels which Penn provided for the original purchasers?
