Really? take a look at the Soccer "footfall" world. they are rabid. men playing and then coaching for the same team for an entire lifetime.

@@biggseye Seriously. Nearly the rest of the world is more rabid about their version of football than we are about ours. Dale, I think this kind of devotion to sports is a good thing. People spending their lives on a game that keeps people active and away from drugs and crime is good. There a whole industry that employs people. It brings fulfillment to so many lives, for the people who play, coach, and work. This scandal had less to do with sports and more to do with public institution bureaucracy and corruption

Its because most of us don't have many other opportunities besides sports. A lot of healthy young men and women wont be able to do much besides run around on a field for the entertainment of others. A lot of less than perfect specimens will end up in sports related fields because they cant work in some other type of office, or hospital, or news room. Sports culture is a small derivative of a greater culture that doesn't value the best things, it values superficial, feel-good activities and not the things which truly matter in life. Until we correct that greater problem in America, we won't solve any other problems.
