I barreled through this book. It was right up my alley, and I never even visited r/nosleep. I am an avid reader, mostly literary fiction and horror, but Penpal left a big impression on me. As for the common criticism it gets about the writing style, etc., it seems totally unfounded to me. I found it to be incredible. Definitely a story to re-read.

I listened to Penpal in August 2023 from Mr CreepyPasta. That story’s ending HIT ME man I almost cried I was right on the verge of tears because that ending was so TRAGIC. If I could explain it the best I could I’d say each chapters plot twist at the end gets crazier and crazier and more intense. Until the ending just hits you like a truck. This story is literally perfect it’s so good.

@@hhowdy it’s amazing how one of the greatest horror novels ever came from the internet hahah. All of these professional horror authors that have been around for decades can’t even come close to the atmosphere Penpal has going for it. It really gets under your skin lol.

I casually look at Goodreads, but mostly hate it. All that site ever seems to be are women claiming a book is sexist/racist/whatever, and then whining about men supposedly not being able to write women lol. It just seems so shallow, and I only really pay attention to reviews of books I've read, because I'm always curious what kind of criticism people can break something I'm familiar with down with. I think I've glanced at Goodreads maybe twice this entire year hahah.
