Wow, same approach for mixing vocals, TV in the other room for vocals and effects listening, ref off a phone, quiet studio no interruptions, no windows, same fave ref of Since You've Been Gone, archaic outboard gear. I love Fabian's work and still use some of his techniques every mix, but that "Florida Boy" mix hurts my ears. It's fatiguing and harsh. No offense, but it sounds like +10dB of cheap digital high frequency, compared to his other mixes. Great interview though! Glad to hear him clarify.

Just went and listened to Florida boy... he's too respectful to say it so I'll say it for him... Kodack sent in the worse recording known to man... sounds like he recorded in one of those 1992 dell mics

What does he mean by shifting the mix up because the vocal was too bright??.... Filling up the top end so the vocal doesn't sound sparse up there??....

because the vocal was poorly recorder it sound if they recorded with a iphone

the problem i see is that when dave mentions songs that his guests worked on we can't hear the actual song. So we don't know what specifically he is talking about. They should get permission from the record labels to play parts of the song so we know what he is talking about.
