Pentangle are the five points of light being Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox.
This Belgian TV special from 1972 captures the band in all its glory as they work their way through six songs from the albums Solomon's Seal, and Reflection.

Just like the songbird, deep in the forest I sing praises but you never hear And deep in my body my song is silent But contented at times when you're near Please listen to me and I will tell thee All those words that have never been said They shout inside me but then they cower Behind weakness that's ruling my head I dearly love thee and not one other With a sweetness that lies in my breast 'Tis you that made me, but God forbade me To uncover my heart to love's test No love is sorrow and now I'm happy To have thee in this world for my love And now you must know my soul is for thee That's why this life is my soaring dove That's why this life is my soaring dove

Wonderful. I’m not sure I recognised how remarkable they were at the time despite buying all their albums . Solomon’s Seal ( this is on that album and I think their last with the original line up) is probably my favourite. RIP Bert and John.

Pentangle is absolutely amazingly talented! They are one of my favorite groups. I just wish the sound was better on this video. I have more than a hunch that a better copy of this recording may exist in the world. I got the DVD of this session several years ago and it claims "Remastered in 5.1 Surround Sound" on the cover. Knowing a thing or two about music production, for TV, this was probably recorded on a two track stereo recorder. They likely don't have the multitrack to go back to, to remix it into surround sound. So therefore, They used a little trick to fake it. Just like vocals can mostly be removed for karaoke (often leaving some behind), the vocals were mostly filtered out of the left and right channels so they could be placed on the center channel of the surround sound mix. Though, the center channel was left silent on the DVD, leaving me to believe that the vocals were filtered out but never mixed back in where they should have been. Therefore we are left with the thin hollow vocals that we hear in the video. (I also noticed on the DVD that the rear channels were not simulated reverb as would be there in a better fake surround sound, but just the same as the front channels only quieter.) So now we are left with this altered and degraded recording that just doesn't do her wondrous voice the justice it deserves nor does it have the typical characteristics of a recording from this era. I hope that someday they will re-release this in its unaltered stereo format. None the less, it's a lovely video.

They are an amazing band. I’ve seen their videos pop up in my news feed but ignored them. Then I heard their LP featured on the podcast 101 albums you must hear before you die. I’ve been a huge fan since. There’s actually more footage of Pentangle than there is of Steel Eye Span or Fairport combined, go figure.

Ohio State University: 1972 (...while a lost student, longing for my maiden in love, appearing 4 years later) "No love is sorrow and now I'm happy To have thee in this world for my love And now you must know my soul is for thee That's why this life is my soaring dove That's why this life is my soaring dove" ...happily married to my bride 42 years later, and thanking God each day, who, like Adam, He brought her to me instead of aimless searching. Reliance upon God, in faith & spirit was the answer. A TOTAL surprise, when I trusted in His power instead of mine. Thank you!

@@skakdosmerI am old enough to remember many people saying the same thing about Bob Dylan in the early ‘60’s. More seriously, it is precisely the blend between the angelic voice of Jacqui and the raspy voice of Bert Jansch ( or of John Renbourn) that creates the magic. Just like Dylan and Baez. Diamonds and rust
@skakdosmer
@skakdosmer 9 ай бұрын
@@christianlacheze3323 well, I never liked Dylan as a singer either. I've sung a few of his songs, but that was I was young and naïve. I don't like them as much anymore; The Times They Are Achanging was a great song to sing for an angry young man. But things didn't quite change the way I thought they would, and now of course I know that's not the way the world works. I love Joan Baez, but Diamonds and Rust was never a favourite of mine.
