Thank you so much for this great video. I love both of the 2 Part Crackle Finishes. They're gorgeous and I really like how they look with the antiquing wax rubbed over the top and then buffed back. I'm doing a project right now and the instructions said to use Pentart 2 Step Crackle, but they didn't say which one to use, so this was very helpful.

@@ellenjgoodsHello again, I did 2 sample boards like you suggested. I painted both boards with Fusion Mineral Paint in Champlain, which is a light blue, and then I applied a white IOD Transfer to each one. Then, I sealed one of the transfers like you did, but I left the other board unsealed. I wanted to see what would happen to the unsealed board after I applied the 2 Part Fine Line Crackle Varnish. It's still winter here in Melbourne, so I put the boards to dry on a low wooden stool over a central heating vent, and they were dry within 30 minutes, and the cracks appeared after 30 minutes as well, after I painted on the 2nd layer of the Varnish! 😊I rubbed the Pentart Umber antiquing wax into the cracks on the board without the sealer, and it worked really well but I didn't like the colour at all - it looks sort of orange - so I tried using my pot of Dixie Belle Dirt in Charcoal, and that looks fantastic. Have you used Dixie Belle Dirt before? It's like a powder pigment that comes in 'Charcoal', 'Silver' and a brown colour, and I think it's very similar to the DIY Dark and Decrepit Dust that you used in your video. So now I'm going to do a proper project with an IOD Transfer or maybe decoupage paper, and the 2 Part Fine Line Crackle Varnish. Thank you so much for all your help. Love from Amanda in Australia ❤ ❤ ❤

Thank you for the video Gen X here, trying to learn this cool crackle oaint as well . Your video, is my fifth one to watch and learn I get confuse, a little, as I watch more videos. The first four, stated one brush line, not to go over the first step. You went back and forth with your brush . The others, use a dryer, and you finally said, until the milky first layer, dries clear. After this video, I am ready to practice. I will try to do what works for me. I haved used foiling, paint pours, many many techniques I cant list. I end with practice. And, stop watching more videos. Some, do not use clear varnish over their photo, before applying step one. I'm off to practice. I will figure it out We GenX, know we can succeed.❤ Bless! - Babcia host of Legacy⚡Luxury

Been working with it after watching you, two months ago! Making wizard of Oz ornaments. I have used the tick, metallic crackle paste, too. Yes, heat helps start the crackle. For the paste, needed! I have allow natural air, and time, to use fine line and classic, still works Heating, just speeds up timing. I don't, want to reheat my primer base coat, for I am doing this, on plastic plates. Anyhow, depends on your surface, too Wood, glass, takes the heat. Plastic? No. TY for the late, two months later, answer But, I did learn my start, from your video I love this medium.

Help, Lynn! Love your videos but I am having trouble applying a product over step 2 of the fine line crackle product by pentart. Im using water based wax by Waverly and also dixie belles best darn wax. They seem to be breaking down step two and almost immediately as I’m spreading on the product it is breaking down step two and turning it, sticky and gooey and disintegrating my crackles. When I try and clean it up, it just is too late. It has already destroyed the finish and the crackles are no longer and I just have a big mess🤬 Must IUs a solvent-based wax or other products that are not water-based? I have spent so much money trying to get a product that produces the crackles that I want so I have both the fine line and the classic Pentart two-step products. And must I seal these With a solvent-based product as well? I have bought so many different crackle products, and wasted so much money. I’m just frustrated to death! If you could give me a quick help with this, I will be grateful. keep making the videos. They are so helpful. Georgeanne

Thanks for your question. I have detailed the differences between using fine line crackle, and the classic crackle in a video here on my channel. You absolutely must use a solvent base wax or sealer with the fine line crackle. We sell both by Pentart. The fine line crackle is the only crackle Product by pentart that requires you using a solvent-based finish trust me, I’ve made the same mistakes, but once you use a solvent finish, you won’t be disappointed. I’ll add the link to the video below.

Hi Ellen. I need some more crackle help please. IOD KZfaq says not to use solvent based products over their rub on transfers.....which I have been doing. Now I am bit worried as I sold the items already and am worried what might happen to them. Been getting some advice from The Tribe FB page which you are also a member. A Pentart lady said not to use solvent. However, I remembered your video so I am rewatching now and you do use it. Any words of wisdom for me please. Ive spent lots of money on IOD transfers and other products and love using the Fine Line over their transfers. TIA
@ellenjgoods
@ellenjgoods 2 ай бұрын
I did apply the fine line crackle over an IOD transfer . I find that it works okay if it’s not a transfer with a lot of surface area… like Wallflower, for example. If it’s a transfer with lots of open parts, like the one I demonstrated on, it does fine. Seal the transfer first with a waterbased finish before applying the fine line crackle, then finish the fine line with a solvent finish. You should never apply a solvent finish directly over a transfer. I’m going to have to revisit this whole topic again…. About using fineline with transfers.
