This week we're going to take a look at Pentatonic Scales and a simple approach for playing up and down the fretboard rather than across the fretboard.
We'll be looking at the Major Pentatonic scale but this method can be applied equally to Minor Pentatonic scales and pretty much any other scale on any root note. We'll be breaking the scale down into small subsets/cells and restricting our movement across strings.
Here's the Lesson Material : www.talkingbass.net/pentatoni...

Thank you Mark. This is what I needed, to open up my bass playing, and let my bass do the talking. Are riffs and bass fills the same thing?Thank you.
@talkingbasslessons

@@antonsims3176 Riffs are repeating figures. Also called Ostinato’s. The term bass line is an umbrella term for any line played on a bass. However, I tend to differentiate between riffs and bass lines that outline a chord progression. With less repetition.

Out of all the lessons about improvisation I've learned on youtube, this is the most important one. It gives direction and unlocks so much. Since the same principle can be used to practice all the scales and arpeggios and learn them properly on the fretboard.

Mark, wow, you just solved an issue I've been struggling with for a long while now, how to construct good cascades up or down the freatboard. I feel quite stupid now, to be honest. The method is so simple, but the problem was it wasn't obvious. It needed to be pointed out and explained and you did a great job of that, as usual. Thanks tons, Mark. You're awesome.

Thank you Mark. I'd been struggling to apply the pentatonic scale for a very long time. This tutorial is very useful and it's opened my eyes to how most of the bassist who inspired me go about those beautiful things they do on the board. I hope to even master this. Thank you so much.

Yes. But only playing four more cells each time (on two strings). Helps with restricting your movements. A lot of good practice involves restriction.
