When they were on The Sing Off the judges often mentioned how a group of 5 people could sound bigger than some of the groups which had 3x the number of people. It depends on having the RIGHT people

Saying that the group "met" the day before their audition for The Sing Off is something of a misnomer. In reality, they only met Kevin (the beatboxer) the day before the audition. Avi (the original bass singer) had met them a few days earlier. Scott, Mitch & Kirstie had known each other since they were children, performing in youth musical theater together in their hometown of Arlington, Texas. They later went to high school together and sang in the school choir, where they formed an a cappella group called The Trio, which was later the basis for Pentatonix.

Their incredible arrangements are among their strongest abilities, whether the song be an original or a cover. We Pentaholics feel that ALL of their covers are "upgrades" to the originals. High on my request list for you to do would be Imagine. That one will tear at your heartstrings as well as blow your mind with the section that focuses on harmonies.

The Trio (Scott, Mitch, and Kirstin) grew up together and have know each other since age 8. The 5 (add Avi and Kevin) only became "Pentatonix" a couple days before The Singoff competition which required at least 5 members to compete and history was made!

Nice reaction guys! Hallelujah has both an official video ( 600+ million views) and a live version from one of their Christmas specials. You could do a back to back comparison if you like. If you want to see a video with Kirstin as lead singer checkout their cover of Say Something. As a bonus in that one, you also get to see Kevin Celloboxing. That’s where he plays cello and beat boxes at the same time.

Kevin is a machine! They all are such perfectionists. There are a lot of hours of rehearsal in everyone of their production. They have a high respect for smart, sophisticated arrangements and highlighting what every one of them can bring to the game. I never get tired of listening to them. 🤗

Thank you for picking one of my absolute favourites of their originals to react to! And yes, you are in for a whole world of treats with some of their major favourites. As well as Hallelujah and Bohemian Rhapsody, there's The Sound of Silence, Can You Feel The Love Tonight, Can't Hold Us, Radioactive (featuring Lindsey Stirling) and a whole load more. They have Ben Bram as their (unseen) sixth member, who helps with all the arranging of their songs. I heard an interview with Kevin where he described their process; he said they all sit down together and throw out loads of suggestions for songs to cover, and when they find one they all agree has potential, they try out different things to see what works, and then Ben helps them to formalise it into a proper arrangement. He said there have been a few songs they've tried to cover but they just couldn't get it to sound the way they wanted it to sound - the way he put it was that they couldn't get it to work in a way that 'still sounded like them' - but they can usually nail most of them with enough work.

Even though their Hallelujah video is the most viewed, I prefer the live performance for their Christmas Special. Some reactors do both to compare them. I'm really enjoying your discovering PTX.

"Run to you" is an original that is magnificent. It reaches places in your soul that you couldn't even imagine and you really need to experience it! REF is another one I LOVE. Such a great original and because it doesnt have a video it gets ignored by reaction channels 😑

You should definitely check out some of their performances on The Sing Off. They were just starting out. I recommend Let's Get it On, Dog Days are Over, and Video Killed The Radio Star.

And may I suggest doing a double play for Hallelujah? The official video first because the location they film from is absolutely stunning and adds to the emotion of the song. Then the live version so you can see how truly amazing they sound without any studio production.

Scott & Mitch had a side gig as "Superfruit" and did stuff on youtube. They put out an album (non-acapella) and I don't know why some of it didn't go top 40 with serious radio play. Their "Bad For Us" is just pop ear candy. So impressive.

I'm one of those weird ones that always hits Like because if I've stopped by a creator's home, I feel a Like is an acknowledgement, respect and even a type of payment to that creator for the time and effort that they expended to create and post that piece of art, for free, for me to view. I'd love to be able to give support through Patreon but I'm one of those really poor Americans (I'm not starving or on the street though so bully for me, right?😉). And unless it's a channel I know I won't have interest in coming back to later, I also always subscribe to reaction channels. It's the only way I know to consistently give back. So thank you for your time and the fun reaction. Hope you guys keep coming back to PTX and Dimash because they're worth your time. Very hard working singers who've been studying music most of their lives. I watch British telly quite a bit so I feel a kinship to my Brit brothers and sisters. I'm still trying to pin down accents and where they're from in England. I think Manchester and London (cockney like Danny Dyer) are the only two I recognize yet. Where are you guys from? PTX makes it a point that they can sing live anything they put out; no autotune, maybe a little mixing to be sure a part is up where it needs to be but they are so experienced and IN TUNE with each other in every sense of the word it's amazing. Add in that they have five world class singing voices and are such good friends they can share the spotlight... They are completely original. And they are meticulous in their work, arrangement, videos, everything. Yes do watch some Superfruit (which is not acapella) and Kevin Olusala solo work (Down, cover). If you kkeep watching Pentaholix will flock to the channel. I'm thoroughly enjoying your reactions to them.

Glad to see you digging into their originals! This original is on their latest album The Lucky Ones celebrating PTX’s first decade together. For several of those years Scott & Mitch had a side channel called Superfruit (which also has amazing music, not acapella) so Coffee in Bed was a nod to their work with them having the shared lead & harmonies they do so effortlessly together.

Check out the early videos done in stairwells. Recorded with single mike and only effect being the sound of the stairwell. But best challenge to you is to look at their whole list of songs and choose one that you really dislike the original version, and after you see PTX version you will love it. PTX originals I think are better than their covers. Less known song Water is a great example of Kirsten 's voice.

Pentatonix are always riveting to watch. There's SO much going on,... everyone is busy all the time, leading the vocal, creating harmonies, adding sound effects. About, Mitch and Kirsty have been singing together since at least high school. Kevin & Avi were added when they registered for the TV shows

Musical geniuses, each one of them. Avi and Matt's tones are so different but both are beautiful in their own way. Avi's bass is booming and he blew out speakers but Matt's is chill like you hear in this one. Its good to remember too that the rhythm section is all Kevin and Matt. No instruments aside from their voices in this performance. Would not be the same without them. The trio is always top notch. They are so in sync and the harmonies are stunning. I realize you are hesitant in reacting to another Bohemian Rhapsody, but have you ever heard it from a "Harmony" group? Your reactions are so genuine and enjoyable to watch, I'd strongly recommend you checking Pentatonix's version of Queen. You won't be disappointed, if fact, you may say it's a just tribute to Freddie and his genius.

for other live songs check out Hallelujah (Live version at a concert), Aha (Singapore Vista - fan cam so not the best sound, but OMG! What a show), any of their early covers done in one take (Gold, No, evolution videos...) New Years Day (an original song sung on stage for a New Years Day show)... Thrift Shop (fan cam taken at an airport gate (!) good quality sound).....

Hi guys OMGOSH I’m delighted you have now seen a live performance, aren’t they brilliant, you can now see why there videos have so many views and millions of fans. There aren’t many bands out there that could sound that good without Instruments, the fans really appreciate how hard they work to get the sound perfect. ✌️ please check out Bohemian Rhapsody. Brian May tweeted the video & said check these is out or something similar. Another option - they performed in front of an orchestra live in a Star Wars tribute introduced by Harrison Ford. It’s just them on stage in front of a huge industry audience. You mentioned Hallelujah. The official PTX video is impressive & gorgeously shot but there’s also a live version performed on one of their Christmas specials. It’s even more impressive. Evolutions are a great choice because they’re stripped down. Also their cover of Gold. It’s live recorded with them all sitting on a couch. So much to choose from so have fun

@K • Thank you for the comment, we do try not to do all the big songs right away and take little detours. We do need to do another PTX reaction and will do that in our next recording session. Hope you enjoy some of our other reactions too.

I saw the titles on your Metal Monday and thought if I watch Slipknot, I would have to spend the rest of the week in prayer. @Faith Reasons That's perfectly fine we appreciate the ones you do watch. To be fair we were quite surprised, it was actually quite a heavy rock song and no naughty words. So fair play to the guys, they just give the impression they would not be "our cup of tea" but turns out we quite enjoyed it. You take care out there!!

They pride themselves with sounding the same … both live and recorded… if they can’t do it live then they won’t do it.

For comparison listen to the official video And you'll see that they do not sound different at all. The same as true for when you get to hallelujah. A handful of reactors doing to in 1 reaction 1st the official video then the live version from a Pentatonix Christmas holiday special. They have a video for a song entitled sing which is an original song

This is not really my cup of tea... ;) Some of the original songs are nice, but a little on the trivial side (like this one and the slightly lovelier "Love Me When I Don't") and they are mostly not what I look for in a PTX song. I like "The Lucky Ones" for the story it tells, "Happy Now" for the rhythm, but my favourite from this album is "A Little Space". And I do not really like these so called live performances which are basically versions produced for a show. I understand it - but it's not live...
