I love that you’re starting your PTX journey. Any time you ask yourself “is that Mitch?” or “is that Kirstie?” the answer is always “yes!” They are chameleons and change their looks constantly. Please add to your list: Bohemian Rhapsody, Imagine, Mad World and Say Something”. But truly you can’t go wrong with any choice from their catalog. Have fun!!

Yup, Avi and Kevin really drive this piece and Kevin especially does a crazy job of providing sounds that really make it sound like a tech piece. This is a very early work and Mitch has changed a lot even in the three years between this an Hallelujah. To be fair, he and Kirsti are changelings, rarely if ever do you see them look the same one video to the next. BTW they won a Grammy for this one, filmed on a budget of about $400 and shot mostly in Avi's kitchen and closet.

Have you heard their version of "Amazing Grace" yet? "Bohemian Rhapsody?" "Imagine"? They're pretty amazing.

Their first Grammy! Better than most actual techo songs. They won another Grammy for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. They do an instrumental song. It will amaze you. I have seen them in person, they are incredible live.

I also love the lullaby Scott wrote for his nephew and had Avi perform Light in the Hallway.

Everything you hear, they can do it live very well 😬, and avi can whistle and bass at the same time, mind blown right?

"Love again" was their first original, excellent video. Avi was awesome in it.

This was the video that made them worldwide superstars, won them their first Grammy, and finally got them signed to one of the world's largest record labels. They had booked studio time to record the song and shoot the video, but their plans fell through at the last minute. So they ended up recording the song in a closet and shooting the video in Avi's kitchen! The pre-production budget was only $400 (not counting the editing cost, which was also done quite reasonably as they had begun a relationship with a brand new production company called FifGen Films, with whom they still work to this day).

I LOVE the various stunned looks you had on your face, because that is exactly how I responded the first time I saw this. Also, since you rightly shouted out how incredible Kevin is, I strongly encourage you to check out his solo cover of "Down." You will truly be BLOWN AWAY.

Bonus: Mitch has the lead. :) Daft Punk won them their first Grammy for best arrangement, instrumental or a capella. They recorded it in a closet and filmed it in the kitchen, then edited it on their laptop. Cost them about $400 dollars. I appreciate you staying on the pentatonix train and love this reaction to Daft Punk. I remember the first time I saw this video I was like..."Holy Crap, there's so much going on"...lol But, it was fantastic none the less. If you are going to do more Pentatonix they just recently released a "90's Dance medley" video. You should so check that out...really really good. Also, I saw that you did a Home Free reaction video as well. They just recently released their cover of "Never gonna give you up" by Rick Astley. It's so hilarious and when you see the video it has an 80's feel to it along with their dance moves to pay tribute to not only the 80's but Rick Astley. I think you'll get a kick out of it. Hi Gabbsi. don't feel like you are the only one who is a bit startled with Pentatonix. I have followed them for awhile and my jaw still drops. It seem like I listen to one of their songs and I am blown away by the level of talent , The creativity alone is just crazy. And then I will listen to another song of theirs and it is just seems to have that unbelievable level of creativity, even though it is a totally different song. Mitch will always look completely different haha, go by his voice. This music was recorded in a closet and filmed in a kitchen for 400 dollars, which I think went to contacts and equipment rent. That's the first Grammy. Avi Kaplan left amicably in 2017, but his solo music is great, look for change on the rise, reaction please, if you want to hear. He sang all the vocals, makes all his music, plays most instruments and even directs some of his videos. He is crazy talented and one of my favorite artists. Pentatonix is doing amazingly with Matt Sallee as bass, Avi even helped chosing him.

There IS a lot to process! On some videos, I have to watch a couple of times to be able to comprehend what I saw. I love your reactions! Your facial expressions tell so much. As far as Mitch looking different, I understand he's had some health issues that caused weight loss. But, yes, they do frequently look different in their videos. I believe this song won them their first Grammy. You should check out Home Free's cover of "Ring of Fire", featuring Avi Kaplan. Two amazing basses in one song. In addition to Home Free, another great a capella group is Voiceplay. They did a song called "Just Sing" which is a massive collaboration with MANY a capella artists. If you watch that one, be sure to turn on the Closed Captioning. They included information about who everyone is.

5:34 When the "reactor" finally gives up on trying to understand/analyze what everybody is doing and finally realizes that it's just ^&%# BRILLIANT and they should just LISTEN! and enjoy!! :) That's the best compliment a music video ever gets.

Yes there is a ton going on. Usually I will watch the video like five times the first time I see it. Each time I just try to focus on one member and it makes you appreciate each part so much more. B you may want to try that on your own sometimes

When they got the Grammy for this Scott explained they recorded this in a closet and did the video at the kitchen table. Budget $400 I think. Go see the Grammy video. I love that Mitch dropped back to escort Kristin up the steps. They met when they were 8 or 10. Met Scott doing local shows, and went to high school together, formed The Trio and did youtubes. Got talked into doing The Singoff but they needed 5. Avi was recommended but they found Kevin celloboxing on youtube, Had 1 day to get acquainted and won the show.

Every time I read the comments on a PTX video/reaction, it always makes me sad because I feel like Scott never gets enough appreciation.

Every reactor pauses just before the Scott "Like the legend of the phoenix" lyric, as if they've seen it before and know there' a slight pause coming up and a change in melody.

You spoke of the way they promote their songs, When they first won Sing-off their record company dropped them because they didn't know how to promote acapella... so they decided they had to promote them selves

I don't know if you noticed this, but if you really listen to Avi's solo of "Television," you can hear Kirstie singing "Around the World," as a countertune.

From the Sing Off, 2011: Avi and Kevin, you are no longer Avi and Kevin. You are now "Meat" and "Potatoes". :D
