Adding to what others have said - not only was this recorded on a cell phone so the upper and lower ranges are compressed, but please note, there are no microphones, ie no sound balancing. You gotta have mics to bring up the bass and beatbox to the same level as the singers. This is as raw as it gets. Their pure talent shines through! Thanks for the reactions!
@ryanje81473 жыл бұрын
Regarding your comments about the quality of the sound; you have to remember that this video was recorded off someone's cell phone standing 10 - 15 feet away from them. It is not going to be studio quality.

Without a doubt the BEST thing about watching any live performances is watching Avi vibe out, he’s just so much fun 🤩 when you can you should go back and watch their Sing Off performances for more Avi gold 😂 loved the reaction, like many others I’m going to suggest the live version of ‘Aha’ live at Star Vista Singapore, (I think you’re ready 😜) it must be the Star Vista one though! Trust us lol I would also suggest you make it a double video and watch the official video first (don’t forget to watch all the way to the end!!) then the live version straight after 😁 in their ‘Evolution of’ videos and their cover of ‘No’ you get to see some awesome vibes between Avi and Kevin (or meat & potatoes as they were dubbed on The Sing Off by the original Pentaholic Shawn Stockman lol) can’t wait to see more from you 😁

The original was filmed live in Avi’s closet on an iPad. They spent about $400 for makeup and costumes. Some after work was done in the kitchen. This is what Scott said during the Grammy Awards. So you might say this info is from the horse’s mouth!

Have to remember this is a impromptu live recording with a cell phone. Minor critic from me. Whenever you tap or pound on your table where your mic is reverberates to the viewers. At times it can be startling. I don’t want to thwart your enthusiasm! Avoid touching the table. Lol It happens on darn near every video I’ve watched from you so far. Some more subtle than others.
@WhatTheBlastt3 жыл бұрын
Sorry I'm really bad at tapping and moving my hands haha. Will try to do something else with them.
@kbbeers42743 жыл бұрын
No need to apologize. I think its the mic placement. Not sure in your setup if it’s able to be moved. You’re expressive and that is ok! Keep being your authentic self. 😎
@davidbangtson31093 жыл бұрын
What's amazing to me is how much this off-the-cuff version sounds to the final, fully edited version heard on the video. I suspect the weakness of Kevin's portion is due to the fact that they are all using just the single mike of the phone being used to capture it, whereas the performance was almost certainly done individually miked.
@jonasbrofan1363 жыл бұрын
The only thing I’d “criticize” about your reaction videos is that your voice is set so much higher then the video so you have to keep the volume lower and can’t hear the actual song as well. Other then that, I love your reactions! Subscribed for more PTX🥰

I love this video! A number of the sound issues here are partially because this was recorded on a phone with no mics in a room with crap acoustics. Beatboxing is hard to hear at a distance without a mic just by the sheer nature of it. There is a reason you see rappers and beatboxers practically eating their mics. AHA SINGAPORE STAR VISTA live is the way to go!

@@WhatTheBlastt Avi and Mitch kill it! Also don't worry that you don't see Kevin. He isn't shown in the video (It's a fan cam), but he is there - you can hear him!)

This is just standing around a hotel room or someplace like it. No microphoness. Of course it sounds muffled. If they stepped into that washroom over there it might sound better with a bit of echo and reverb off the tiled walls. The point is, this proves there's no electronics. All those little details that make it sound techno really is them.

Hi - Avi's 2 other founders are Rob Dietz and Ben Bram. Ben is an arranger who works with Pentatonix. Actually he told Scott they had to get Avi as bass for the Sing-Off whom he knew and then gave Scott the Kevin beatboxing video and went through his contacts at Yale in their a cappella program to get Kevin's phone number. Ben is an important element in Pentatonix formation.
@TigStripe3 жыл бұрын
The recording isn't a great quality, or you'd be able to hear Avi and Kevin a lot better. The real talent here is Avi and Kevin being on opposite ends of a straight line up - not being closer together could cause issues with being together on the beat. Truth be told, the middle trio had some tuning issues, but that's easily one of the hardest parts of live performances in a confined room with bad acoustics and not being able to hear each other as well as if they were standing in circle facing one another.
@nickfox53213 жыл бұрын
I think some of the tune issues could be due to the recording having a bad quality. Not saying they're probably not perfect in tune, but it could sound worse then it is in the recording who knows :)
@TigStripe3 жыл бұрын
@@nickfox5321 oh definitely we're not hearing all the nuances of an in-person performance through this. but that room is doing them ZERO favors on tuning.
@nickfox53213 жыл бұрын
@@TigStripe agree, the room is so awful for tuning or substance of the sound. Echo who?
@mikegoodwin23863 жыл бұрын
It takes much more power to reproduce lower frequencies. Plus the microphones on electronic devices like cell phones or whatever this was recorded on usually roll off the lows to reduce rumble and improve speech clarity. So all those things are working against Kevin and Avi being heard.

@renee1762 жыл бұрын
But under these conditions, they all did an excellent job! But there is a MUCH clearer version of them singing it live that you can hear the beatboxing so much better than the version you played. You may want to go back and find the original that was uploaded this is probably a copy of that original.
@SouthAfricanMedic3 жыл бұрын
I think this was recorded on a mobile phone and that is why the quality of Kevin's audio is not so great

Recording live music with a mobile phone is just... nope. That tiny tiny little microphone can't pick up any low frequency sound, esp. not when mixed with mid to high frequency soundwaves. I've never heard a good mobile phone recording. I've heard a few that have been good enough to filter, normalize and mix to sound a bit more like a pretty good bootleg recording. Oh well, this performance was never meant for people outside that room. Also, singing straight up in a room like that (office break room??) isn't doing a lot for the PTX members. They aim their voices to the audience while standing next to each other and have to rely quite a bit of the reflected/bounced sound from the room. It's a very impressive performance no matter what. No engineer, no microphones, no mixing deck, no monitor etc. etc.

They were better when Avi sang with them. Since then they have become a stiff wooden un humorous overrated group.
@lauriedaiken44263 жыл бұрын
Are you being sarcastic? I realize everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I have to completely disagree. They are different without Avi, but Matt is a great addition - he is extremely talented and funny. They have matured, but they are far from wooden and even further from overrated.
@gailseatonhumbert91993 жыл бұрын
They are different. Matt is quite good but Avi is a consumate musician and composer and an actual bass which is a very rare voice type. It was not something that Pentatonix wanted but it happens in all bands after awhile members leave for all kinds of reasons. 6 years was a good run with the original lineup. The good news is you get to hear Avi sing more than a phrase or 2 now but entire songs and he is still composing music.
