I attended their Denver concert on November 20, 2022. They performed "Hallelujah" early in the concert, when their voices were fresh, and Matt's arrangement on the second verse was one that I'd never heard before. I don't have a trained ear, but I would swear that his lowest note was as low as anything I ever heard from Avi (yep, true basso profundo, blowing-out-speakers low), and his highest note was actually in the *tenor* range! I checked the live feed of their Hollywood Bowl concert, but there "Hallelujah" was the last song of the night, when their voices were tired. Matt still reached that tenor-level high, but he didn't even attempt that low, low bass note. Has anyone else heard this from him? Can you verify my observation? Even if I'm off a little bit off about how low that bass note was, Matt currently has a greater range than I ever heard from Avi, and his range has been increasing since he joined Pentatonix. I fully expect that growth to continue for at least another year or two. Matt is totally spectacular.

Not sure if you noticed but when Matt was singing the lead, Scott covered the bass line for him. I love how much you care for and love music. All the acapella groups have their own vibe. I think that Home Free is more country, Voice Play is more into theatricals and PTX is more pop genre. And, yeah...I think Matt is a really great replacement. His warm, deep voice, so mellow,... and his energy!! You should see him and Kevin doing crowd warm-ups when they're on tour. Those two are so fun to watch together. They feed off each other so seamlessly. And they need to because they both are the support for the songs and the rest of the group.

Great reaction Kaireem great to see you doing a ptx reaction. Like the idea of the battle you said at the beginning so look forward to that. There is a lot of reactors who like home free, ptx and voice play. Some will have favourites over the others but I feel most will still respect the others. Matt was a great addition and brought some much needed energy to the group. There is some amazing covers done with Matt and you can feel the energy but that is not taking anything away from avi as he is also amazing 😊

Kaireem, you are one of my 2 favorite "video reactionist"(?) And I listen to several! Your enthusiasm & just pure animated joy in your work, the songs you react to.. it's infectious and I can't help but smile listening to you; I'm sure you light up the room wherever you go.. thank you for sharing your time & yourself with us!😊💖 I really like your "Comparison of Acapella group covers" idea~ sounds fun, interesting!😊👍 We all have our preferences, but I'd like to think we all appreciate that each of the groups are absolutely Amazing! And that it's more about differences & preferences, and less about who's "better", per se. 🤔😉 Same with Avi & Matt.. they each have their own unbelievably great strengths that have complimented & enhanced Pentatonix as a group, overall!🥰 I was only 5 yrs old in 1964 when "Sound of Silence" was released. But I definitely remember hearing it while growing up.. I Loved it! I used to sing it as part of our school choir in Jr. High. I'd also love to hear you react to Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" sometime- Awesome song!(maybe you already have..lol, I'll have to check) Next year will be 60 yrs since "SoS" was written by Paul Simon, and released~ the words are just as insightful & timely today as they were back in '64; if anything, many would say Even More So now! The line.."And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming"... it has no religious connotation; other than showing where people were putting their faith, what they were in effect, "worshipping"- "the Neon god they made"~ Money.. Commercialism.. Celebrity.. worshipping Whatever empty things or people that in actuality, were powerless to help.. powerless to effect the ills of our world & bring about positive changes! My comment's already too long, lol, so let me just say that there's a really interesting, heartwarming story behind the first verse, "Hello Darkness, my old friend, I've come to talk with you again.." If you look up Sanford "Sandy" Greenberg and Art Garfunkel you'll see that it refers to Art's best friend in University, and their amazing friendship! Greenberg suddenly went blind in college, where Art & he were best friends & roommates. Anyway, in an empathetic gesture to his friend, Art nicknamed himself "Darkness"; Art sacrificed a lot to help Sandy through those extremely difficult yrs and they have a beautiful, enduring friendship even now. If you read any of the articles to be found, you'll understand that first verse in a different light. Paul, who had been friends with Art since high school, wrote that verse as a nod to their friendship, in honoring of it . Although obviously, it can also be understood in the context of the rest of the verses.☺️

Don't worry; most pentaholics listen to PTX's Christmas songs year round anyway. Recommend "O Come All Ye Faithful," "The Prayer," and "The Twelve Days of Christmas." "The Prayer" isn't necessarily a Christmas song, even though they released it on _Evergreen,_ their 2021 Christmas album. The only thing that's really Christmassy about it is that it shows falling snow. But it's gorgeous, and _Evergreen_ is up for a Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. The Grammys will be on February 5, and it will be the first time I've ever watched them. Keeping my fingers crossed on this one; this would be Matt's first Grammy.

All three acapella groups are completely different from the other. They all have their own lane that is why they are all successful within their own lane. Perhaps what you should know is that it all started with Pentatonix and had Pentatonix not won The Sing-Off in 2011 I believe acapella would be a very different thing today. I don't think you'd be hearing acapella mainstream. I watched that series back in 2011 and when Pentatonix came on the stage everybody was shocked. Nobody had ever seen anything like them in acapella before. It was their hard work and dedication that pushed them forward because Sony dropped them like a hot potato before the ink was dry on the contract that they supposedly won. All of these great acapella groups have put in their hard work and deserve the accolades that they get. I just believe they would not be getting those accolades had it not been for Pentatonix in 2011. ✌❤😎

When I see a visual line-up like they have in this video, one of the first things my mind goes to is, "How tall is Kirstie in this video?" You'll notice that she's nearly as tall as Mitch - but since there's actually a 6" difference in their heights, it gives you an idea of just how tall her footgear is in this video. And yet she manages to move around without even seeming to be bothered by them. SMH.

I've seen a video of her discussing high heels with Mitch. She mentions that she saw a video of Mitch wearing heels in an airport, where she would *never* wear heels, and he says that he only did it that one time. And he discusses his concern that one of these days when she's going down a ramp on stage wearing those really high heels she may fall. Since then I've seen a video of Mitch grabbing her arm to help *keep* her from falling when going down a ramp, so those heels do cause some genuine problems for her.

@@Badger77722 I think the trio care deeply about each other. They treat everyone in the group as family, but Mitch has been friends with Kirstie and Scott for over 20 years now, and that shared history has to count for a lot. Also, it goes the other way, too. Watch their video of "Bohemian Rhapsody" again some time, and notice Kirstie giving Mitch a hand up onto the sofa during the "devil set aside for me" segment. And Kirstie was wearing high heels there, as well. I can't imagine standing on a sofa in high heels. I can imagine *trying* to, but actually succeeding? No way. I'd give you a link, but I forgot to save it. That keeps happening to me with Pentatonix; they just have so *much* stuff out there that it's easy to lose track. I'm also still trying to track down the video I saw where Kirstin said that she can sing higher than Mitch. I do have a link to the one where no one was quite sure, except that Mitch said Kirstin's whistle notes are better than his. And someone told me about a video of Mitch first finding out about how pentaholics use the term "Mitch slapped" and being totally taken aback, but they didn't provide a link and I've been looking for it ever since. Poor Mitch. That bullying he got in high school just totally messed up his self image. And now that everyone is telling him how wonderful his voice is he can't quite bring himself to believe it, though the amount of money he's made with his voice ought to be pretty convincing.

Risky proposition... Hum, you may be adding fuel to the fire. Their fan base is respectively solid and zealous. Judging something like this may cost you some subscriptions. Backlash may be relentless. Both groups are special in their own way. Remember that. I would re-visit that idea. I am glad you put some clarity at the end of the video. Good save! Home Free is wonderful at what they do. But Pentatonix has two advantages over Home Free. First, Home Free tends to limit themselves to country music. Not totally, but the kind of music they perform is less diverse, covers fewer genres, than Pentatonix. Second, Home Free suffers from the lack of female voices. There's something to be said for all female or all male a cappella groups - they have a different quality to their sound that can be very beautiful, but it's also limiting. Pentatonix could not do what they do without Kirstin. Listen to their rendition of "Seasons of Love" some time. Yes, Mitch could *certainly* hit that high note, but the song would have a different feel with Mitch singing the solo than it does with Kirstin singing it.

@@KaireemReactions I'm not saying "Don't react to Home Free"; I'm just saying that I like Pentatonix better than Home Free. If nothing else you should check out Home Free's performance of "Ring of Fire," featuring Avi Kaplan. I can't tell by ear that it isn't Johnny Cash singing. Stunning. And I've no idea how much of that is because Avi was singing with them and how much was because Home Free is just that good, but I'm sure it wasn't *just* Avi. I don't think he could produce the same effect with, say, Avriel and the Sequoias. Also, Home Free won season 4 of _The Sing-Off,_ after Pentatonix won season 3. I've seen all of Pentatonix's performances on _The Sing-Off_ (it's remarkable watching the way they grew over just two and a half months), but I haven't searched out Home Free's performances. Personally, I'd just as soon watch those in a series of reaction videos, to get other people's takes on them. As a general rule, I think it's a bad idea to allow the perfect to become the enemy of the "merely" good. Most pentaholics think Pentatonix is perfect, a belief that I share. But Home Free is darn good and shouldn't be discounted just because they aren't Pentatonix.

Pentatonix was involved in forming the group (at least, I think that's what I remember; they're involved somehow anyway), and these kids are extremely good.
