Daft Punk. They won a Grammy for it. They filmed it in a closet of one of their apartments with a budget of $400 and it really showcases Kevin the beatboxer and his incredible beatboxing skills. Well and the rest are just amazing as well. I would watch the studio versions of the songs and then the live versions. You will be amazed….people actually say there is no way they can do this live, they over produce it in the studio to get it to this but then you hear their live versions and realize they can do it just as well live. I happen to believe they are very deliberate when they arrange their music….if they cannot come very, very close to being able to sing it live they don’t do it. It is how they began after all….on the show the “Sing Off.” T ✌🏻

They filmed the video in the kitchen and spent $400 on supplies, but much more on the actual production. The sound was filmed in a closet, though, when their studio time fell through at the last minute. They do music they can't reproduce live in more recent years. They've flat out said they have no idea what they'll do with most of The Lucky Ones and Ben Bram has said they don't hold that same "live" standard for originals. But for most of their career and most of their songs it's true.

When - NOT IF - you do "Daft Punk" you really NEED to do a double reaction. Official Video followed in the same reaction with the "Private Performance" where they stand at the front of the room and sing. No mic's, no in-ear's and recorded on a mobile device! Then say they can't do this live!!!

I agree with many others that if you are going to do Hallelujah, watch the official video first. The Daft Punk medley and their own Love Again will show you how outside the box they can be. Bohemian Rhapsody and O Come, All Ye Faithful are great for showing what a twist they can put on iconic songs.

I don't think I'll ever get over watching how casual Mitch's body language is while he's melting our brains out of our heads, lol. It's like he's not even doing anything, but out comes this gorgeous voice that feels like riding a cloud. Unreal. Also, with the three versions of Sound of Silence (original, Disturbed, PTX), I feel like they each capture a different emotional facet of the song. Simon and Garfunkel were wistful and melancholy, PTX version is so impassioned and almost hopeful, and Disturbed captures the anger, pain, and frustration. And all of those live very naturally in this song.

So glad you reacted to Popspring before this - and will here recommend one of three performances you'd asked for there - a video where you can watch all of them, one screen, so you can see what each member is doing. Their cover of Kiiara's "Gold" shows 5 members all the way thru, in synch and you can choose whom to watch at any time.

Nathan, you put out these videos at a rate that is difficult to keep up with...not complaining, just observing. I prefer their live Christmas Special version of "Hallelujah" to the official video. My favorite PTX videos are "Amazing Grace", "Havana", and "Daft Punk", but you really can't go wrong with anything they do. For pure enjoyment, it's hard to beat their collaboration with Todrick Hall on "The Wizard of Ahhhs" or their own original "Sing". Their versions of "Mad World", "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "O, Come All Ye Faithful" are not to be missed.

Paul Simon is a superb contemporary poet in his composition of lyrics. I loved this song back when S&G originally performed it, and I love both the PTX and Disturbed versions for different reasons. I love the harmonies and transitions between soloists here (and loved how during Matt's verse on the "people writing songs that voices never share" part, the main melody switched to Mitch while Matt went into the lower harmony (that Paul Simon generally sang under Art Garfunkel's lead), and then took it straight down into the basement with that great low run. The Disturbed interpretation was also amazing for both David Draiman's gritty, powerful, and emotional performance, but also because I think it captures the darkness of the lyrics better than any other version I've heard. Really can't go wrong with any of the three.
@marcgarrett4401

I've heard it said that the s&g original was a warning, disturbed was anger because the warning was unheeded and the PTX version was hope.

Before some more... intense... fans comment. Their name is just "Pentatonix" not "The Pentatonix". No biggie, but just one of those things. I think the 3 big versions of this song are very good in their own way. Personally based on taste I think I would rank Ptx, S&G, Disturbed. However, they are all very good and vastly different versions. I've seen a comment describe it perfectly. The S&G version was the warning and initial message, the Disturbed version is the anger that noone is listening, and the ptx version is that "in the middle of chaos" glimmer of hopefulness against all odds. I find that a very poignant way to look at it. I've seen some say ptx is too happy for the message, but to me it reads as hopeful and not cheery.

And some song requests. I know you said rock/punk but I think that's a genere they don't do much. The only I can think of is Born to be wild that they did on the sing off (a reality a cappella show) and while I find it super impressive and fun, I'm not sure if it holds up for someone who loves the genre since that was on their cheesier end of the spectrum. But they use some very cool arrangement choices. They do some power ballad stuff. A recent release with some epic power vocals is Prayers for this world. Coldest winter, Making Christmas & Shallow are some other more intense ones. There is a live performance of Aha! with a choral opening at Star Vista Singapore that always gets recommended but I suggest saving that for a bit until you're more familiar with the band. Some random more iconic songs they've covered: I just called to say I love you, Dreams, Dance of the sugarplum fairy (2nd grammy win, orchestral music done by mouth!), Imagine, Jolene (3rd grammy win WITH Dolly Parton!), Mad world And some wildcards (and why): Sing (Original. Some fun pop-punk vibes at parts, very fun song), My heart with you (epic harmonies), The Greatest show (on a special greatest showman album. Has some layering and only a lyric video but is very epic) Sorry for the essay!
