I recently found this package of Pentel Wow! ballpoint pens deeply discounted and thought I'd give them a try. These are triangular shaped pens with 1.0mm and 1.4mm ballpoints. Ink colors are blue and red. These pens feature a retractable point and comfort grip.

I love the aesthetic of cursive writing with blue pen on a yellow paper : )

I thought you are a Pentel fan like I am, and that's why you put the "Wow" on the title LOL. Never seen these before! You should defenately try, the Pentel Kerry loaded with Ain Stein 2B leads! My alltime favorite pencil for writing/taking notes!

LOL! Hi greekveteran - no, Pentel put the "Wow!" in these pens. Thanks for the tip on the Pentel Kerry!

Awesome review Kevin! I agree with you with regards to the preference of retractable pens without the additional button on the side, and simply clicking the top for both functions. I also agree with you regarding the comfort depending on the size of the person's hand. As someone with very small wrists, hands, and fingers, this "Papermate Wow!" wouldn't be a good option, especially for any extensive writing. This fall and winter, I found some new favorite ultra fine gel pens with 0.38mm and 0.28mm tips! Particularly the Uniball Signo RT1 0.28mm. It's so much fun for project journaling, making lists, and sketching out some detailed diagrams and ideas. I can get a lot more ideas down quickly and as I'm thinking of them. It's also great to be able to keep all of those ideas on one notebook page or paper sheet. If it's lined, I can fit two lines on one line! Somehow, this smaller size also makes me feel far more focused, and very calm- similarly to using a typewriter, where you can just instantaneously get all of your thoughts out as you're thinking of them, if that makes any sense? Update- lately I've actually been using PENCILS again! The task I'm using them for is to pencil out letters and animal characters onto large painted sheets of wood, then painting them in for some local advertisement signs that we're making ourselves to save money. Thankfully I haven't done much erasing, but feel free to make any eraser recommendations. The worn erasers I've had for many years are not the greatest. Thanks again Kevin! Fawn 😊

Hi Fawn! It's great to hear that you've found some pens that you really like and fit well with your writing style! Uniball products are generally excellent quality, too. I'm also happy that you are using some pencils! Yay! There are a lot of good erasers out there - most of the Japanese erasers do a nice job. Pentel, Tombow and Sakura erasers are all good. Thanks!

Personally I really like this pen! By the way, you can actually disassemble it: you just need to push in the side button, twist the top a little bit, and then pull it out.

4:33 The term you're looking for is "dual switch" IIRC. Okay pen, I suppose, but not for me. I don't like click pens: a combination of loose tolerances needed for the retractable mechanism + my light writing pressure (I routinely write with 0.3mm graphite and never once broke the lead while writing) = the point wiggles noticeably when I write. The stability of a stic pen cannot be matched.

Hi DFT - thanks for the "dual switch." I agree that stick pens are have got retractables beat in stability! Thanks!

Hi Kevin, do you enjoy the fountain pen segment at all? ~ Greg.

Hi Greg! Honestly, I'm not a fan of fountain pens. I know there are lots of reviews of them and countless models, inks, nibs, etc., but I never had much luck using them and as a heavy-handed writer I've found them difficult to use, so I stick to pencils and ballpoint pens. Thanks!

Strange, I could've sworn Pentel makes its products in Japan - their erasers are the best so I find it hard to believe they're made anywhere else. Agree that putting part of the retracting mechanism on the side of the pen is irritating and honestly would keep me from buying that particular pen. Speaking of Japanese-made products, would you be interested in reviewing Pilot Better pens? I have a box I'd like to send to you if you're interested.

Hi SV - I'll have to look around and see if I have any of those Pilot Better pens. I know they have been making them for many years. I would like to review one. Thanks!

@@AlwaysAnalog funny thing - the Pilot Better were some of my favorites when I was in school - the stick kind. Well, not that long ago I came into a couple of free boxes of the retractable pen, fine point, but they don't seem to write nearly as smoothly as I remember. :( Not sure if it's just because fine points tend to be scratchier than medium points or because Pilot, like so many other companies now, outsource their manufacturing to countries with crappier production quality (like Bic did with the Cristals or Pilot did with the RSVP pens). So I'd love another opinion on these and what you think of them.
